Cornbread was throwing me some shade. They heard the thunder coming in the distance but hadn’t gotten their Romain lettuce 🥬 and was getting impatient.

Sunday mornings feel a little different here in Cumberlachia. 🌄🙏

Before the day gets busy, there are hungry chickens waiting at the coop door, geese reminding me that breakfast is apparently an emergency, rabbits looking for their fresh hay, and a whole barnyard waking up around me.

But sometimes, right in the middle of filling feeders and changing water, I stop.

The morning is quiet. The mountains are waking up. Birds are singing somewhere in the trees, and for just a minute I realize how blessed I am to be standing right here.

Life doesn’t have to be extraordinary for God to make it beautiful.

Sometimes His blessings look like a basket of fresh eggs, a healthy animal running to greet you, a garden beginning to produce, or simply another morning we’ve been given.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22–23

What is one simple blessing you’re thankful for this Sunday morning? ❤️

One of the greatest lessons a garden teaches is patience.

Tiny seeds become healthy plants. Flowers become vegetables. A little daily care becomes baskets of fresh food.

Some days we focus so much on the harvest that we forget to enjoy the growing.

The garden reminds us to appreciate both.

What’s producing the most in your garden right now?

It’s impossible to spend time with our Lionhead rabbits without smiling.

Each one has its own personality. Some are curious. Some are shy.

Some immediately come over to see if you’ve brought a treat. Others like Thumper, lay around as if he owns the place.

No matter how busy the day gets, a few quiet minutes with the rabbits always help slow life down.

What’s one animal that always makes you smile, no matter what kind of day you’ve had?

One of my favorite sights on the homestead is a shelf slowly filling with jars. And my freeze dryer is getting a workout.

Golden infused oils. Bundles of drying herbs. Freshly made tinctures. Future salves waiting to be created.

Every jar tells the story of time spent in the garden and woods, gathering what nature provides.

It’s a reminder that learning old skills keeps us connected to generations who relied on the land long before us. I feel my mamaw looking down on me.

Have you ever made an infused oil, tincture, or homemade salve? What was your first project?

There are few sights more satisfying than a basket slowly filling with fresh eggs from all my lovely ladies.

Every egg represents good care, healthy birds, and another reminder that small daily chores add up to something wonderful.

Whether they’re from our hens or our quail, gathering eggs never feels like work. It feels like one of the many little rewards of homestead life.

How do you like your eggs?
