Even in winter, we take steps to care for the soil and promote a more natural ecosystem. The traditional way to feed hay in winter is to put a bale in a rack for the livestock to eat and add another when it’s gone. This creates “dead” rings in the field that are smothered with waste hay. This becomes acidic from excess manure. By spreading hay out all over the field, we distribute the manure all over the field and add organic matter evenly. This also allows more timid animals to eat instead of waiting for dominant animals to fill up. #regenerativefarming #regenerativesoil #kisstheground #grantcreekfarm #ourfarmyourfork
