Omg !
Just found this disposable camera photo of myself and my dear friend Hannah Stratford Kurus! We met at in Montreal Quebec in about 2011! We were eating at the free lunch they offer there called the Peoples potato . The second we met we clicked and have had a friendship unparalleled since !
Hannah was/is my first big flower inspiration. She had flower books and vases full in her perfectly whimsically appointed 3 rd floor apartment. She had worked at flower shops though she was currently studying religion and womens studies. She has a sense of taste and color that’s at once effortless and well crafted. She made my flower crown when Nik and I got married in 2017, and it was around that time I really was starting to notice flowers myself.
By the time this picture was taken we were both flower people and she came to visit when I was 7 months pregnant with Sadie .She trecked all the way from Eastern Canada while beloved .lumsden stayed with their 1 and 4 year olds (Bill and George).
With a big belly and a happy heart full of friendship we made the most epic bouquets for hours from the flowers we had grown at our rental farm on Mt Glen rd. They were wild and thoughtful and bright and artsy and I think we sold 1 or 2 of 12. We were in year -1 of the farm as it’s know now… going to some weeks, selling what we had and with a 12 member cropshare. It was fun and really scrappy and I was so tired being pregnant and working full time as an advisor and farming . That same week, we closed on this property we live at today , on my birthday , and Hannah was there with us.
The thread between us is strong and my understanding of design , florals, patience , and perspective have all been greatly increased by Hannah, and I’m thankful to know her.
One of the best trips Nik and I have taken was to her and Mikes wedding in Almonte, Ontario their magical home town, also in 2017. It was the best wedding - she wore a pink wool dress need I say more - full of fun, delicious food , ping pong, and dancing. But the best part ? Going to the cottage of a local lady together and picking the final touch flowers for all the arrangements❤️

Happy Solstice to all! ❤️

It’s a cold and frosty mornin !
The farm is easing into the season of rest and restoration - while we do things like order next years seeds , fix fence , clean the barn, wash all the cropshare tubs , repair things , work off the farm, visit family and friends , bake bread , etc
You won’t hear from us here as much the next little while as we rest but here are a few things on the horizon to consider/ get in your calendar!
🌲Cropshare sign up for returning members will open December 1!
🌵December 3rd we’ll be at for a special holiday sale put on by Ashley of which promises to be very fun again!
🌳New member slots for cropshare will open on Feb 14 so mark yer calendar If you’d like to participate ! We had a full waitlist all season but we are adding 10 slots this year !
🌴If there are any special veggies you love that you really want us to consider growing pop em in the comments here and we’ll see what we can do ! No promises with our harsh climate and short growing season but always open to input and ideas !!
🎍We are still supplying with kale , garlic , radishes and more so you can get your veggies in their delicious food , and it’s pretty fun to shake the frost off the kale , and have it taste better than any other time of year (the cold temps bring out the sugars in kale !)
☘️We have more people interested in sponsoring families for cropshare next year so If you are interested in fresh weekly veggies but cost is a barrier do not hesitate one bit to reach out and we’ll get you food no matter what !
🌱Thank you , thank you , from the bottom top and center of our hearts for your steadfast support , patience , and kindness these last THREE years ! We really couldn’t do it without you 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍

This is Pete and Kelly Welch ! Kelly is Nik’s dads sister , and Pete is her husband of 38 years 🤍I’d like to share a really kind thing they offer to the farm
⭐️Kelly works at in Portland
🌟She things organic farming is a powerful contribution to local communities everywhere , and knows the nuances of pricing needing to be above grocery store averages for small scale farmers to earn a even a super modest living
💫She also knows that our region has lower per capita incomes than metro areas like PDX and likes to support Oregonians statewide
✨So on her own volition she decided to donate to a designated farm fund we can use to fully sponsor people to receive a cropshare subscription free of charge , as well as subsidize customers at market using Double up Food Bucks to help them get the most food for their spending power
⚡️She has decided to re up her donation this year so it looks like we can sponsor 2 cropshare members this year !
⭐️In addition to all this , she and Pete came out to the farm last week and planted out garlic , packed the last cropshare boxes , and sipped cocoa with Sadie 🥹
🌟I wanted to share all this since it feels very hopeful to me - people wanting to support other people directly , contribute to the health of communities, explore different corners of this splendid state we live in, and try new things.
💫It also strikes me since it is such a creative and direct way to give , and has inspired me to think of similar things I can do for others, in my own way.
✨We are more than open to anyone else who would like to contribute to the food sponsorship fund - imagine if we could cover 10 cropshare members in need each year!
⭐️Thank you Kelly and Pete !! Your generosity has already made such an impact -the ripple effect is real 🤍

THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING 2022 farm season ! Yeah, we love gardening and such but it really wouldn’t work to have a farm without our committed cropshare members , market shoppers , wholesale accounts ( + ), and pumpkin pickers 🎃🎃🎃🎃
It was already a special last day of the season, and then the dreamiest rainbow graced the cropshare pumpkin patch today 🌈🌈🌈
We value your support so much- cheers to 3 years in business !
We’re heading to see family for a bit but for all those who like their music loud (or have good earplugs) come catch Nik and the good fellas of La Grandes preeminent metal band Nogero for a Halloween show the 29 of October 😈👻

GARLIC ORDERING IS LIVE !!!
🧄On our website - link in bio!
🧄It’s a web store so you just swipe your card in one fell swoop easy peasy
🧄And it can ship to your doorstep for all our friends outside of La Grande 💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌
🧄I’d say 2 lbs would be a solid amount to get through the winter !
🧄Second pic is Amber from Union who won the pound guessing contest - she guessed 250 # to the actual total of 246 #, and won 2 free lbs last Saturday - thanks Amber !
🧄Let me know if you have any questions about garlic and thank you so much for supporting local agriculture, and specifically a shelf stable crop that does particularly well in Northeast Oregon and can help provide a sustainable component of our small business 🤍
