Since 2007, we’ve crafted pastries, cakes, and traditional treats—made fresh daily with time-honored recipes, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. 🍰🥐 Balkan Bakery was established in 2007 with the desire to provide quality, made from scratch confections. Inspired by the traditional classics and modern confections from the Balkans, our pastries are delicious, decadent and beautiful. All of our in house products are made from scratch, and always kept fresh. Premium ingredients are used in our products such as lightly roasted walnuts, hazelnuts, rich chocolate and fine coconut.

We're looking for a friendly, reliable person to join our team.

Since 2007, Balkan Bakery has been a little corner of the Balkans in La Grange — scratch-made burek, pralines, croissants, illy coffee, and a newly launched menu of paninis, salads, and bowls. Our renovated café and new outdoor pergola make it a place worth slowing down in.

You'll be the first face customers see — greeting guests, making coffee and specialty drinks, running the register, keeping the café clean and stocked, and helping people discover what we do. Some light food prep, too. No two days are the same.

What we're looking for:

-Warm, positive attitude (this matters most)
-Great with people from all walks of life
-Reliable and dependable
-Comfortable with POS systems and cash handling
-Food service or café experience is a plus, not a must — we'll train the right person
-Barista experience is a bonus
-Food safety knowledge (or willingness to learn)
-Able to be on your feet and handle physical tasks during busy periods
-Love for Balkan or European food is a bonus, not a must

Catering is where our heritage comes alive. Every tray we send out carries a piece of Serbia with it, recipes that traveled from our hometowns to La Grange and never lost their soul. It's food meant to be shared, the way it's always been done back home.

This week, we're unveiling our new menu. A new chapter, rooted in tradition and reimagined for today. The stork is our symbol of new beginnings, and this feels like exactly that.

Balkan-meets-modern. Ajvar, kulen, kajmak, urnebes woven into toasted sandwiches, salads, and bowls that feel fresh but taste like home.

For anyone who grew up with Balkan music, this band needs no introduction. Their songs are part of the soundtrack of so many of our lives, and we’re honored to help bring our community together for this night.

WE'RE IN THE NEWS! ✨

So honored to be featured by La Grange Daily in their story "Balkan Bakery finishes renovation, plans expanded menu and nationwide shipping."

This piece captures so much of what we've been pouring our hearts into... the refreshed café space (with our new pergola and patio seating!), our new menu launching this September that weaves ajvar, kulen, and kajmak into modern sandwiches and salads, and the story behind our stork, a symbol of new beginnings and homecoming, rooted in our Serbian hometowns.

A few things we hold close:

-We never closed our doors during the renovation. Every beam, every display case, every detail was built after hours, while the ovens stayed on and the burek kept coming.
-The space was designed by Natasa Dubak, Director of Interiors and Design at IMX Group LLC, who led the project from concept through completion — reimagining the interior and carrying that vision through the newly designed exterior and patio for a cohesive, elevated, refined aesthetic rooted in European sensibility.
-Our burek remains the anchor of everything. Bojan is still the master chef behind it.
-And later this year, The Gourmet Vault, our sister online store, will ship Balkan products and specialty grocery items nationwide from our home in the Chicago area.

You’ve told us how a single bite can carry you back to a table in Belgrade, to Novi Sad, to your grandmother’s patio in summer. Those stories stayed with us.

A moment worth savoring. ✨

We are so proud to share that Balkan Bakery was featured in the La Grange Patch this week.

In "La Grange Bakery Renovated; Larger Menu Set For Next Month," writer David Giuliani traces our 19-year journey, from the recipes we've held since 2007 to the European-inspired gathering place we welcome you into each day.

A few things we're especially honored to see highlighted:

The pergola and patio, already part of your daily visits, designed by Natasa Dubak, Director of Interiors and Design at IMX Group LLC, who led the renovation from concept through completion — reimagining the interior and carrying that vision through the newly designed exterior and patio for a cohesive, elevated, refined aesthetic rooted in European sensibility.

The stork at the heart of our new identity. Not a heron. A roda. A symbol of new beginnings and homecoming in the Balkans. You'll find it on our new menu, bakery boxes, and disposables, a small bird carrying our koreni into this next chapter.

The new menu, unveiling early September. Balkan meets modern. Ajvar, kulen, and kajmak woven into the sandwiches, salads, and bowls people already love. As Marija says: "We didn't want to choose between heritage and the way people eat today. We wanted to weave them together so both feel at home."

And the part we hold closest: we never closed. Every renovation was done after hours, after the last customer left. The space you walk into today is the same space you walked into yesterday, only deeper in its story.

Two cream puffs, powder blue bakery boxes, and a quiet glimpse of what’s next ✨

One cloud-like choux drizzled with velvety pistachio cream and toasted chopped pistachios. One silky vanilla, gentle and classic. Both packaged in our stork-branded boxes, the same stork that appears on the new menu, debuting early September.

The stork has always been a symbol of new beginnings. In Serbia you see them resting on utility poles along the road, unhurried, at home in the sky. We carried that feeling here to La Grange, a little piece of Serbia in the slower rhythm of a European afternoon.
