Saved a hive last Friday after a local tree trimmer cut it open. We FINALLY found the queen (twice) and placed her into her new home. Luckily we had some already drawn out comb for her to start laying her eggs. We moved the hive to her new home and placed some sugar water with nutrients in hope the hive will grow rapidly. Right now there isn't much for bees to eat so this new hive is at risk of starving which is why we are feeding them. More updates are coming soon.

We went to check on our 2 beehives this last weekend. We needed to inspect and treat for mites if necessary. I brought the honey super just in case our 2nd and upper brood chamber was full of eggs, larvae and baby bees. This year is so different from last year. We've been so wet with lots of pollen and nectar sources compared to last years severe drought. I found the upper brood chambers on both hives completely full....some brood but mostly packed with honey. The bees are using the lower brood chamber for raising new bees with just a little in the center top. The nectar is really flowing this year. The creek behind the hives has been flowing all year. So far we haven't had any signs of robbing from the other area beehives. It seems like the energy from all our bees is going to raising new bees and collecting honey and not fighting off intruders. Thank you God.

I finally had a chance to get into my hives and do a full inspection. It's been such a great Spring with wet weather and plenty of flowers. My dad has been so busy he hasn't been able to come and assist the hive inspections until this last weekend. The hives have grown so much we was able to add a second brood box (for baby bees) to both my hives. No signs of problems like mites or small hive beetles which is nice. We still plan on treating for mites soon since they did get into our hive last year. We was only able to find one queen but we saw so many signs of a healthy colony with eggs and larvae that we know both hives have healthy queens. Enjoy our latest pictures. Honey super will hopefully be placed on next month sometime.

This evening Dad and I cleaned up the spot for our hives. We tried removing the tumble w**ds with a w**d eater but quickly found out that a rake works better. Here are some pics of the spot with our 2 vacant hives. Next Saturday (April 15th) we get our 2 colonies.
