Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How much meat should you expect to get from a 200-300 pound pig? Go to this website for an excellent breakdown of a 250 lb pig:https://ag.ok.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/HOW-MUCH-MEAT-BROCHURE-HOG-MEAT.pdf
2. Are your pigs grass-fed? Yes, but not all grass. Due to the digestive system of a pig, not being like that of a cow or goat (ruminants) they don't do so well with just grass. They also need other proteins and minerals. We feed our pigs a combination of HiPro Feed Pellets, Alfafa and Grass. See this link for an excellent further explanation of why pigs need more than grass: https://cairncrestfarm.com/pages/does-grass-fed-pork-exist
Are your pigs given hormones, antibiotics or vaccines? Not at all. We take pride in good meat. We want to give you the best meat possible!
3. What is the process of buying a pig through us?
It is simple! First, you purchase the pig through us. We accept cash, check or PayPal. (We raised these pigs from piglets...we have the momma with us. The cost per pig to raise them to weight is approximately $88 per month. They are between 7-8 months at butcher time. We recoup this cost by selling the pigs to consumers.) Second, we take your pig directly to A & M Meat Processing LLC for you on December 30th. Third, after dropping the pigs off, A & M will give you an account to access online. This account will allow you to fill out the specific cuts of meat you prefer (smoke bacon, sausages, etc.). Some want to smoke their own meat, and that's is just fine! You will pay the butcher fees directly through A & M. These fees can be seen here on their website: https://www.ammeatprocessingllc.com/your-own-beef-pig-lamb-goat (sausage, bacon, smoked items cost extra...but are worth it!)
