The first quail baby has hatched! We love it already and can't wait for more!

If you are interested in quail babies, I will likely have some for sale! I also have quail eggs (hatching or eating) for sale too! $5/dozen for eating and $15/dozen for hatching!

Busy day over here!

We got a batch of salsa canned, and finished up preserving some Kokanee by canning it as well. We also got a load of vanilla yogurt bites into the freeze dryer, as well as a batch of home made yogurt in the instant pot! We got a new one with the yogurt setting!

Not pictured is adding the honey super to one of our hives, quail eggs collected and a batch of cold brew made for the week!

Had a little homestead surprise yesterday!

One of my coturnix quail decided she wants to be a mama and was sitting on a clutch of eggs! This is surprising because their breed of quail isn't known for going broody, and doesn't usually sit on the eggs reliably.
When we checked them, she's definitely been sitting on them for a few days so we snuck them away and into the incubator.

Quail only take 16-18 days to hatch so we may have some cutie little friends joining us here in two weeks!

We picked up two nuc boxes of bees this week! We jumped in with both feet and are learning SO much! The bees are so amazing to watch.

The hubby is taking the lead on this project, but I got to install our nucleus this morning and it's SO cool to see what the bees can do!

Spring is here, and so is garden season! We've been out of town so the garden has been on pause but we're jumping in with both feet this week!

I'm planning on getting a bunch of stuff going in the greenhouse, direct sowing a lot of things and doing some planning for future beds and a better fence!

Oh, and a new VERY exciting addition to our little homestead is coming super soon. 🐝🍯

This week's project was freeze drying eggs!
My freeze dryer held 4 dozen. The eggs were blended with a teeny bit of salt to bind the protein and pre-frozen. Then they went into the freeze dryer. When they came out I pulsed them into a powder.

Guess how many eggs fit in a quart jar?!?
2 DOZEN!

I haven't dehydrated them yet, but I'll post the results when I do!

It's been a bitter sweet few days with our rescue bunnies. We lost one yesterday, but we also got their hutch mostly done. It just needs a roof and sides to protect them from the elements. Babies are doing well and learning to love snuggles, and mama bunny is happily accepting pets from the cage!
