Cedar Meadows Farm

Cedar Meadows Farm We are a family farm in Ironsides, MD that provides a variety of farm-fresh products to our community. Message us to order/ schedule a time to pickup.

In order to provide the freshest product, we pick/bake to order. Cedar Meadows Farm is owned and operated by Elena and Matt Gilroy. Elena grew up on a farm in Nanjemoy, MD. She was very active in 4-H and raised rabbits, chickens, goats, and wool sheep. Matt also grew up around farms. He helped out on his grandparents farm raising cattle and working hard in the fields. Cedar Meadows Farm provides

quality heritage farm products to our community in order to promote the unique qualities of diverse agriculture, and to foster a knowledge of and appreciation for the agricultural traditions and heritage of rural Southern Maryland. We often post produce and other farm products for sale on our page, but we can take orders for the farm bakery or sell wool yarn and jams and jellies year-round. If you'd like to purchase anything, send a dm and we'll coordinate pickup or shipping. While we hope to eventually have a website, we currently coordinate most sales through Facebook. Keep in mind baked goods often require at least 24 hours notice. We use PayPal invoice (which you can pay with a credit card) and cash.

We really love our rural lifestyle... but sometimes we're reminded that we're only about an hour outside of DC. All sorts of military planes this morning. (Air Force 1, B2, F35, F22) Private flyover on repeat for about an hour-- none of the crowds.

The county fair is less than a month away so we're busy working with our sheep and finalizing entries.

Oh yeah and school starts on Monday!

But that doesn't mean farm life has been slowed down just because my posting has. Farmer Matt is going to be planting all our fall greens tonight!

Well, the frost might have gotten a good portion of our grapes back in the spring, but what's left is making a heck of a crop! We probably won't have extra to sell, but we should end up with enough to make this year's batch of homegrown grape jelly!

That said, this year has still been hard on our produce. We made the hard decision to turn under most of our summer garden last week and just let the land rest a little before we start putting in fall greens.

We still have garlic, sunflowers, and some occasional peppers or tomatoes that we'll post as we get them, and the baked goods hold us over when mother nature keeps hitting....

Thank you for your support as always!

The Lego cake is vanilla cake with vanilla icing and is available for purchase for $20.

We love all things heritage around here-- from our heritage breed livestock to our old-school varieties of kale, to our homemade baking, we like a good tradition....

This is no different-- these jars contain watermelon rind preserves. They're not something we generally sell, because they're pretty labor intensive (and they require us to eat A LOT of watermelon) but they bring a lot of nostalgia, and are very yummy so we keep the tradition alive.

What's a food you love that brings you back to "the good old days"?
