This summer, Manitou Makoons Gitigaan and Diaspora Gardens held our first ever Seeding Kinship Black & Indigenous Healing Cohort, followed by a Community Arts Festival on Mooningwanekaaning (Madeline Island). We will forever be in awe of the magic that inherently occurs when community gathers in shared relationship and intentionality with the land. We started Seeding Kinship with the shared belief that when Black and Indigenous peoples can come home to the land together, the tools, teachings and seeds of freedom that we find are that which hold the power to grow a sustainable and liberated future for all peoples. This week in August, we got a glimpse of this powerful future.
Our Healing Cohort spent three full days of relationship building, sharing songs, stories, history, somatics and prayer, all while seeding critical restorative conversations of building and practicing shared liberation.
Following this was our Community Arts Festival, where we spent three more days celebrating Black & Indigenous resilience, love, culture and JOY alongside our beloved island community!
With the transformational experiences and learnings of this incredible summer, we are deeply excited to continue learning and growing Seeding Kinship and supporting this meaningful work within our communities…
Supporting the seeding and dreaming practices of intercultural healing, community stewardship and collective liberation in relationship to our shared, sacred lands.
