Narrows Creek Garden will have a very limited offering of white or purple violet and dandelion jelly at the Community Farmers Market this Thursday, 2 to 6 pm, just off main street in downtown Reedsburg, Wisconsin. The spring flowers are gone for now, so there will be no more after this is sold.

Tomato, peppers, cabbage, and broccoli plants are doing great and survived many nights of temperatures in mid-to-upper twenties under row covers. I plan to continue using row covers on plants subject to infestation of worms from moths.

The new strawberry garden features raised beds, drip irrigation, and mulch to reduce w**ding. I have about 250 plants in the ground with another 750 more to set out. Hard work at Narrows Creek Garden that won’t bear fruit until 2027!

The first thing I did to prepare the strawberry beds was to bring in about 20 tractor buckets full of composted cow dung. That tilled in, I formed the raised beds, laid two runs of drip irrigation over each bed and then covered that with w**d suppression fabric. Next, using a 4inch hole saw and running in reverse, I made the holes for the plants and then dug holes and placed the plants. Somewhere along the process I blew dirt over the w**d suppression fabric so the wind doesn’t move it. With all that prep work, I only have the first hundred plants in the ground on a chilly day: may 6, 2026.

Strawberry plants arrived today. Two heavy boxes of AC Wendy plants. Maybe next year I’ll have a small patch of U-pick June bearing strawberries to offer?

These incubated goslings were let outside for the first time today in the front yard. An hour later they were gone! I found them and they apparently found a mom and pop! I don’t know if they are officially adopted yet or just hanging out. I’ll keep watch.
