Dear Customers,

With sadness, VBG&GM will no longer be growing any mushrooms. This hobby business takes a lot of my time and energy, and recently some family things have come up that I've made my decision to no longer grow/supply any mushrooms. VBG will still exist, just don't know what that full picture looks like as of yet.

I will be selling my fully functioning farm (not greenhouse) and interested potential buyers are welcome to contact me. I will upload descriptions and items on my Facebook.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause my wonderful customers.

Thank you for your understanding and I hope with the rebuild of my herbal business that I can still have your support.

Mush Love,

Hello world from VBG&GG!!! It’s been a minute since I have posted, but life has been HECTIC! Just how I like it!

Shiitake mushrooms are so fascinating, and they take a lot of patience. But I believe they are the best mushroom to eat. These mushrooms take a few months to fruit. And one of the most frustrating aspects of shiitake is the black and green mold that they bring if conditions are not perfect. I have to carefully look at each bag almost daily to judge the substrate and mycelium health.

Shiitake is so beneficial for fiber, vitamin B, anti-cancer, anti-aging and bone health. Those are just a few of the wonderful benefits these mushrooms provide- shiitake is amazing for the human body.

These beautiful babies were harvested today. My daughter and her new husband are coming home for the weekend so we are going to have shiitake sautéed and put on top of our elk burgers. Have an amazing weekend! Mush love!

Dear Customers,

With the winter season coming up, VBG&GM is going to stop inoculating all Mushrooms mid October. Mushrooms fruit will start limiting the quantity in December until I run out. I will keep my weekly customers informed when that time has come. I made this decision because when our local restaurants take a break in the winter, it will be time for me to maintenance all equipment in the farm and upgrade a few things.

I will start inoculating again first of January and will be up and running mid February with most species.

Any questions, please contact me.

Thank you EVERYONE who has been the best customers a girl could ask for!

Mush Love, 🍄

Have you ever had a plan and the end goal wasn’t what you had originally planned? That’s kind of what happened to me. Valley Bear Gardens was for herbs and medicinal uses. And the gourmet mushrooms—obviously the mushrooms. But in the last few months, my business plan has reinvented itself. Somehow it has expanded into getting a few chickens to keep down the grasshoppers in my garden and get a few eggs here and there. But we didn’t just get a few chickens; we ended up with a little more than we had planned. Now I sell eggs too.

Sometimes changes are needed and good for your soul. Opportunities present themselves when you least expect it. From planting a seed in a few days and seeing it sprout to inoculating substrate and spawn to create fruit of mushrooms. And getting eggs from animals that depend on me too to feed and water them.

It’s a good lesson of life to work hard, accept change, and see the fruits. The change of plans that was intended has helped me find peace, nurture my soul, and benefit from the fruits.

I encourage you to find your plan and accept the change; find what your soul needs.

Thank you for the continued support. Mush love.

Nothing like seeing the beautiful creation from the mushroom nursery to the fruiting room on a Friday morning. To see the gills underneath the caps of the fruiting mushroom is so fascinating to me. They are so delicate and perfect. And then in the incubation room, seeing the mycelium develop a few days after inoculation brings a sense of accomplishment of creating this life. I had a hand in this! Best feeling in the world.

Everyone that knows me knows that I am quite spiritual, a Christian, and I have a deep appreciation of nature. The perfect perfection. The medicinal uses. The deeper understanding of life. One of my favorite things to do is ground in water and to be still in a forest. I find I can quiet my mind and my soul. Knowing that everything that grows around me is complete perfection.

When I walk away from those moments of meditation and exploring the natural surroundings of my home, I can go back to my farm feeling refreshed, renewed, and having a deeper appreciation for being a farmer.

I can say becoming a mushroom farmer makes me laugh sometimes, because what was I thinking? My family can tell you I have made the comment before that this was the dumbest thing I have ever done. But I say that because of the hardships and the heartaches that I’ve endured. What I’ve been learning lately is not to fight the knowledge I have received to become a mushroom farmer, but to start listening to my gut and to feel their energy on how to take care of these special species in our altitude as well as throughout the seasons.

Listening to my intuition has really changed my opinion of the problems that have since come up. Every day there is a new problem on my farm that I have yet to experience. So with an open mind and an open heart every day, I’m going to do the best for myself and my mushrooms. But also this experience has opened my mind to the beautiful creation GOD has made for all of us to enjoy and learn from. We are all perfect in our own way.

Have a great weekend! Thank you to everyone that supports my farm, my ideas, and my produce! Mush LOVE!!

I’ve been focusing a lot on brain health. I have had two serious concussions, and I still deal with the aftereffects. I am a true believer that any trauma still resonates inside your body until you completely heal it mentally and physically. I don’t want to be a statistic, so I am actively and naturally trying to heal myself. That being said, some of these herbs here are going to be used for a moon milk tea. Some of these herbs are also going to be for an anti-inflammatory routine that I’m going to drink every morning. If you don’t cure your inflammation inside your body, you are at risk for health problems. Soon, I’ll be selling these concoctions in mixed herb form so customers can take them home, enjoy them at their own leisure, and heal.

People often ask, what is it that you do? Truthfully, I’m not sure what I really do, but I have fun. I enjoy creating and being in nature and have always been curious about what makes things grow and what medicinal benefits everything has.

I wasn’t making sense to a friend one day when explaining how I inoculate mushrooms, and the best way I can describe it is kind of the same concept as IVF.

My substrate is the uterus, and the spawn are the embryos, and I put them together. I create an environment that helps these species grow and monitor the humidity and CO₂ readings and temperatures, even down to how much light is allowed on my babies. I’m not going to mention how many times a day I have to dip my hands into bleach to sterilize their environments.

In the incubation room it is complete darkness until the fruiting begins; then they are moved to the fruiting room for 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness.

I recently was blessed to spend some time with a chef on a tour here at my farm and explain my processes.

When we were in the fruiting room after looking everything over, he was so amazed at all the different rooms and the extensive process. For some reason when you are in the fruiting room, there’s something magical that happens. Everything makes sense. Your problems aren’t as big as you think. I told him how my mushrooms in the fruit room are almost magical and therapeutic.

There have been times of frustration when accidentally growing mold and stress when things don’t go as easily as you expect them to. I have actually sat on the floor and cried, but something magical happens in this room. The life that I created is fruiting, it’s growing, and it’s going to heal people (whether they know it or not). I love being positive. I hate having bad days, but I will tell you being in the fruiting room makes me happy.

When I walk out after a moment of self-doubt, the world is brighter (literally because I’m walking out of a container with only LED blue lights). But my perception of the situation has changed. So when you ask someone how they do something, I hope they get excited and have passion in their voice as they explain to you what their process is.

Because I am truly grateful, even through the hardships, to be part of the journey of my mushrooms and for them to teach me the valuable lessons of life. To be part of nature. To be part of a different community and the gift of life from a different perception. That’s the meaning of life for me. And the mushrooms have taught me that.
