Our new cohost Autumn made delicious baked beans last night as well as potato salad for today. We slow cooked pork since yesterday so it’s has now been shredded and will be kept at food safe temps until we are ready to bring it downtown. I just made coleslaw. Now getting our essentials together after. We will have ice cold juice and water. You can use it for your cooling towels even! Big thanks to The Food Source Foundation for a big ol pack of pork and ingredients for sides for tonight’s meal! See you downtown at 6! Big thanks to Diane for restocking last night for a few hours and today!

Ok guys, I do everything pretty much myself and occasionally ask for help (which I still honestly have a hard time doing because I get a offers but not much follow through. I wasn’t supposed to be hosting tomorrow night but no follow through happened so I’m doing it) but we are averaging 20 kitchen trash bags of junk (stained, torn, cut up, broken items, one sock, one shoe, etc) to take to goodwill a week. That’s two trips weekly now. This is too much. Please when you are donating be sure to go through it before bringing it to us. We are not a business or non profit. I make $0 from this as anything I make from Facebook engagement goes back to the community. Please don’t make my life harder doing this by forcing me to go through literal trash sometimes. I’ve even gotten a used diaper. I can see you on video when you donate I might start saving people who continue to do this on facial recognition if you keep bringing me your literal garbage so I can talk to you on camera next time. I can understand missing a stain or something but the literal trash is getting to be a bit much. Paying for dump runs on top of everything is going to have to come out of Facebook engagement if it keeps occurring. I can’t afford to do it. I need our community to help me help you. Please don’t donate trash. 2nd photo is cut pant legs we received in this bag I just went through for an example.

Volunteering for Freedom Store
Volunteer app link in comments below:
You can find Freedom Store under the “Services” section. Once I accept you as a volunteer you can sign up for any role, days and times you would like (you pick your time and how long you want to do it for, its totally up to you) to volunteer for. You can restock, pickup donations (if you sign up on the app you can notify us there you need a donation pickup and all pickup volunteers available that day/time frame will be notified), help with Wednesday night distributions, recycling or goodwill drop offs.

Carport Restocking

1. The Standard Color Gradient
Professional organizers often recommend arranging clothes using a light-to-dark spectrum. This creates a smooth, visually pleasing transition across your rack.
* The Rainbow: White ➔ Cream ➔ Beige/Tan ➔ Brown ➔ Yellow ➔ Orange ➔ Red ➔ Purple ➔ Blue ➔ Green ➔ Grey ➔ Black
* Metallics & Multi-colors: Place items with complex prints or metallic threads at the very end of your color-coded section.

2. Sub-Categorizing for Precision
To make finding outfits even easier, apply a consistent sub-sorting method within each color block. The standard approach is to arrange items from shortest to longest sleeve length:
* Sleeveless / Tank Tops ➔ Short Sleeve ➔ Long Sleeve ➔ Jackets/Outerwear

3. Gender Hangers
Use compact pink and white hangers for girls/women and blue and black for boys/men.

4. Size Stickers
You must write sizes on stickers for shoes, shorts, skirts, bras, swimwear, sleepwear, cardigans shape-wear & dresses.

5. Day of the Week Stickers
If the area you’re stocking is full remove any items stickered 1 week or older. Place these items in a bag in the tote labeled REDISTRIBUTION. We take these to other organizations like City Gates, OlyMAP, etc.

6. Going Through Donations
You can wear gloves if you want to, we have them available for you. Check all sides on clothing, especially armpits, belt loops and pant bottoms for any damage, stains, rips, etc. Put any damaged/rancid items in a bag you label Goodwill. If all it needs is a wash place it in a bag you label WASH. If you see anything you need while going through donations please feel free to keep it for yourself. New with tag items must be placed in the NWT tote so we can post them online. If you’re running out of space start pulling anything 7+ days old and place into the “Redistribution” tote. We will give these to another organization.

7. Canned Food
Discard any damaged expired cans into the trash. All pop top cans got to downtown distribution for the homeless, this includes pet food. Please place them in a box to the right side of the donation shelf.

8. Electronics
Not everyone is electronic savvy or knows what they’re looking for. Use a sticker label to describe what the item is. If you don’t know that’s ok Kim’s a nerd leave it for her 😂
