Criscoe House – Update #5: The earthmovers have demolished the old garage and excavated the dirt driveway & garage site. On Monday, they’ll finish packing down hard red clay for support. Randall Warren’s crew from Arab Water Works replaced the water meter and assisted the earthmovers in resetting the water meter box. The percolation test for the new septic system is in the works; we should have approval soon. Even though we haven’t had much rain in the last two weeks, we are beginning to see grass come up all around the house; hopefully, it will become established before heavy winter rains have a chance to erode the hillside. Open house is still set for Sunday, November 29th, and Sunday, December 6th, but we have adjusted the times from 1-4pm. Hope to see you there!

Criscoe House – Update #3: Bailey’s Dozer and Tree Service hauled off the last load of tree stumps today and dozed all around the house.

Years ago, when the county improved the Criscoe Road, they carved through the hill in front of the Criscoe House and left a steep bank of soil. Yesterday and today, Bailey’s excavated a half-dozen loads of soil from the front yard and graded a gentle slope down to the drainage ditch and road.

Meanwhile, out in the garage, we discovered a squatter in Aunt Nell’s old washing machine. We gave him 30 days notice, but he elected to clear out early…
