One of my favorite things about growing flowers has nothing to do with the flowers themselves.

It's watching what happens when someone finds one they love.

Maybe it's someone buying their first bouquet. Maybe it's someone asking about a variety they've never seen before. Maybe it's a gardener picking out a plant because they're finally ready to try growing it themselves.

Those little moments are a big part of why I keep doing this.

The farm has changed quite a bit since we started, and flowers have become a much bigger part of it.

But one thing hasn't changed: I still love sharing what I'm growing with you.

And I still get way too excited when someone comes back and tells me, "I grew it!"

That's a victory I never get tired of.

Remember the basket?

It used to be filled with vegetables.

Now it's filled with flowers.

So after a lot of growing, changing, and a little bit of "well, I guess we grow a lot of flowers now," Wilimena's Backyard has a new basket.

The new logo reflects what the farm looks like today: lots of flowers, with food still growing alongside them.

The vegetables aren't disappearing. Ginger, okra, garlic, cucumbers and other seasonal crops will still have their place here.

But flowers have become a big part of our farm, and a big part of what many of you now know us for.

So here's to the new basket.

Same backyard. Still growing.

I've been thinking about how much Wilimena's Backyard has changed since we started.

We began as a nursery. Then we started growing more food. Then came more flowers. And somewhere along the way, I realized I was spending an awful lot of my time surrounded by flowers.

I didn't really plan for it to happen this way. I just kept growing what I enjoyed growing, paying attention to what people were excited about, and figuring out what made sense for the farm.

Flowers have become my biggest crop, and right now they are also what keeps the farm going.

So this isn't really a change in what Wilimena's Backyard is.

It's more like the farm growing into what it has become.

And I think that's one of the things I love most about growing things. You can make plans, but once you put that seed in the ground, you don't always know exactly what it's going to become.
