Just piglets doing piglet things. đŸ· Would anyone be interested in a video of Greg showing us the newest litters of piglets that were born this week? We are experimenting with a new farrowing system this year & I’m sure he’d love to explain it to you.

Mark your calendars - we have some fun opportunities coming up this summer!

Our daughter Kara & her husband Ed own Springfield Acres, a u-pick sunflower farm. Their farm is adjacent to the farrowing farm portion of our farm - on the south side of US 20.

We are going to be collaborating with Kara on a few projects this summer. The 1st will be a new event called Rooted in Community: A Flower & Farm Experience at Springfield Acres. Kara created an experience that covers the history of our family - how we ended up in this area, how we entered the meat business when the hog market crashed in 1998, and how Kara is taking the seed of "supporting local businesses" that she was taught as a kid and applying that to a new kind of farming. The event will also include flower picking, arranging, and (of course) a shared meal of Greg's roasted pork & baked beans. We will host it a few times this year, but the 1st will be on July 16th. You can buy your ticket on the Springfield Acres website.

The other event that we are excited to collaborate on is the annual BBQ & Brews in the Blooms 2026 event on August 1st. Kara might be a sunflower farmer now, but she couldn't stay away from local food. She created this event to coincide with the Northeast Indiana Local Food Network's Local Food Week. It's a celebration of local food, with live music, craft beer, and (of course) our roasted pork sandwiches & baked beans. Free admission, free parking. Bring your own lawn chair & hang out for awhile!

We cannot wait to share a meal with you this summer. See you soon.

This is kind of exciting. We are putting skids under our farrowing huts we will use during the grazing season.

We drift lamb on pasture. The ewes get a new piece of pasture each day. We don’t move the back fence until the mothers from a day or two have came back to the group.

This will be our first season for “drift farrowing”. We’ve always set stock farrowed. Now, these skiddable huts except the newborns will move forward weekly on pasture.

Time for the sheep to head back north! Evan and Travis do such a great job of having everything ready for the move. And the trust that the sheep have in them is obvious! Betty and Lou, our livestock guardian dogs, make a brief appearance, as they wanted to say “Hi!” instead of proceeding to cross the road. đŸ€Ł And as always, a huge thank you to the Lagrange County Sheriff’s Department for assisting with traffic control!

Next weekend, July 26th from 5-8 pm, we will be serving roasted pork sandwiches and baked beans at my daughter Kara’s sunflower farm again! This will be a part of the Northeast Indiana Local Food Network’s Local Food Week. There will be live music, local alcoholic beverages, and a few other local food vendors. Bring a lawn chair & celebrate local food with us!

Our sheep made it in Inside Indiana Business. I love that picture of the ewe flock. It does a great job of showing their condition. The girls are getting big. Getting paid to control vegetation on utility scale solar with sheep is a huge opportunity for our farm. It’s still kind of surreal that we have almost an additional thousand acres of pasture. Access and affordability of land is a constant battle for regenerative farmers.

Lightsource bp’s Honeysuckle solar project in St. Joseph County has entered commercial operation with 188 megawatts of new clean energy generation. The project will generate enough energy annually to power 27,000 U.S. homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions ...
