Mark your calendars - we have some fun opportunities coming up this summer!
Our daughter Kara & her husband Ed own Springfield Acres, a u-pick sunflower farm. Their farm is adjacent to the farrowing farm portion of our farm - on the south side of US 20.
We are going to be collaborating with Kara on a few projects this summer. The 1st will be a new event called Rooted in Community: A Flower & Farm Experience at Springfield Acres. Kara created an experience that covers the history of our family - how we ended up in this area, how we entered the meat business when the hog market crashed in 1998, and how Kara is taking the seed of "supporting local businesses" that she was taught as a kid and applying that to a new kind of farming. The event will also include flower picking, arranging, and (of course) a shared meal of Greg's roasted pork & baked beans. We will host it a few times this year, but the 1st will be on July 16th. You can buy your ticket on the Springfield Acres website.
The other event that we are excited to collaborate on is the annual BBQ & Brews in the Blooms 2026 event on August 1st. Kara might be a sunflower farmer now, but she couldn't stay away from local food. She created this event to coincide with the Northeast Indiana Local Food Network's Local Food Week. It's a celebration of local food, with live music, craft beer, and (of course) our roasted pork sandwiches & baked beans. Free admission, free parking. Bring your own lawn chair & hang out for awhile!
We cannot wait to share a meal with you this summer. See you soon.
