Harvest greetings! This one has not been easy...what looked to be a bumper crop was significantly curtailed by August's intensifying drought. Pretty sad to see so many partially developed hazelnuts crisp up as many plants died back at branch tips. There is still a meaningful harvest to be had, however, and a silver lining: most of the plants we have been studying still produced impressive yields! Each of these pictures shows the plant and its individual yield. A full bag from one plant is a key metric we use to measure potential. These are old hazels, aging out of nut production and part of a system in which we have not added any nutrients for six years, just tried to let the ecosystem support itself. Consecutive years of large yields with no/minimal inputs is the goal for meeting our human needs/desires, and these plants are here for us. Some of these will be part of this year's seed offering, and others have already contributed to our bare root seedling production. We have moved to a pre-order setup for both items, so you are welcome to learn more about these plants and purchase their progeny.
