Latte is our most photographable cow! She is a Jersey heifer due with her calf this October. Her mom, Mocha, is still on the farm too! 🐄💓

When a cow freshens, we give it a few days before putting her milk in the tank. In the mean time, her milk does not go to waste! Besides feeding the calves, I often process this milk into butter and boy, does it make delicious results 😋

Yesterday, we had our 1st set of twins born on the farm! Our cow, Sunshine, surprised us with a nice bull calf & then suddenly a heifer calf too! When a heifer is born with a twin male, she is infertile. This has to do with the male hormones affecting her development. The females are called "Free Martins." Since the calves are half Angus, we didn't intend the female calf for milking anyways!

We have found that feeding twins while in the same pen takes 2 of us 🙃 otherwise 1 calf is slobbering all over your pants!

Jasmine here is the secret champ behind our milk. An average Jersey cow will produce milk with ~4.8% butterfat, Jasmine's last milk sample had 7.22% fat 🧈 Now that's some creamy milk! 😋
