Join us on Sunday, March 23 for Land Access Alternatives: Management, Logistics, and Stewardship of Remote Grazing your Flock or Herd. This webinar is for anyone interested in raising animals or expanding their existing operation, but for whom land access is an issue. We'll cover all aspects of remote flock management, including connecting with land owners, choosing the right land, safely transporting your animals, supplies and infrastructure, proper fencing and security, rotational grazing, and more. This webinar is intended to encourage shepherds and graziers who are interested in alternative land accessibility options to take the jump! Here at Greywether Farm, we're gearing up to begin our 5th season of exclusively remote grazing our flock of 70 Icelandic sheep, and are excited to share what we've learned.

Billie is one of our favorite ewes, and has almost all the qualities that we look for when assessing our sheep. She's got great conformation, top notch parasite resilience, and an excellent milk suppy and mothering instinct. This summer, she raised a beautiful set of triplet rams with zero supplementation (photo 3). Granddaughter of AI sires Gramman and Throttur, plus Dancing Lamb milking lineage as well.

Breeding season is well underway! This year, we are breeding 5 rams to 17 ewes. Each ram was chosen carefully and brings unique qualities to our breeding program. This year, I'm hoping to strengthen our flocks' shoulder depth and topline with Kind Horn Elio and Kind Horn Olov; improve back end muscling and introduce the spotting gene with Linger Hem, and improve ewe milkiness and frame size with Greywether Etienne. Finally, we have Marcus, our most senior ram. He produced the best lambs across the board last year: they were well conformed with strong immunity and above average parasite resistence.

It's been a hustle deciding on and managing 5 breeding groups, but it's so exciting to continue building up our flock and diversifying our genetics.

Spring shearing this week, and bellies are getting big. Solid black ewe Izzy (our AI Drifandi granddaughter from Stark Hollow Farm) wins the wide load award this year, and she's not due for another 4 weeks! A couple of ewes are due in the next few days, but April is when lambing season really gets going.

The ewes are looking quite round as we close in on the final weeks of gestation. Two more weeks before the first lambs are due! Spending this time making sure we have all our lambing supplies in order, and supplementing the ewes with BoSe shots, Vit A, D, and E mix, and CMPK drenches to make sure they're in top shape for lambing.
