It's happening! We are excited to co-host the Whirligig Community Festival.

Calling all artists, farmers, dancers, musicians, caregivers, sculptors, midwives, dreamers, educators, grandmothers, kiddos, community organizers, and everyone above and beyond! We want to collaborate with you! Bring forward your big dreams and ideas! Bring it all!

Please join us at the Whirligig Community Festival on September 19–20, 2026 here at Tiny Tempest Farm!

Over two days we invite you to make community, break bread, and camp. With care for one another and care for the land, we will work and play together, practicing the skills we need for the new worlds we are building.

We are seeking proposals that capture the spirit of whirligigs: A whirligig is a wind-driven sculpture, garden ornament, and toy that spins or whirls. Whirligigs have been a beloved part of folk art and rural craftsmanship for centuries. “The whirligig has two universal characteristics: it has been created for the fun of it; and it gives pleasure to those who see it.”

Projects may include, but are not limited to:
Workshops
Talks, teachings, and presentations
Readings
Theater and performance
Music
Art installations and exhibitions
Hands-on participatory projects

This event offers a low-barrier entry point to share your work. We encourage you to lean into the process, make a mess along the way, and be shameless in your efforts. This is not strict!! Or professional!!

First harvest - did anyone else land these purple bunching onions? Actually, I don’t think I sold them at the plant sale because there were so few 😬.
I guess that makes me both greedy …and lucky.

They did great this year, and I love the look of them. Gifts for my workmates!

And then there’s the retro countertop, too, for you zoomers. Maybe I should just say it’s old because it’s actually from the 70s. Not a poser.

It’s been over a week and I’m long overdue with my heartfelt THANK YOU to all who came to the barn dance!
A seriously good time was had by all sorts of folks, friends, neighbors, new faces, city and country, all mixed up and holding hands.
This year we added the option of chili (soooo delicious!) and camping and even pancakes the next day - all because there was a group of amazing Whirligig-ers bringing their energy, ideas, willingness, and big hearts to Tiny Tempest. To this little bitty farm with a big old barn.
Thank you for the much needed sponsorship that helped keep the price relatively low and for inspiring new farmers.
Thank you caller Susan Doxtator and the band, Jordan Wankoff and Jeff Bone, for guiding us and keeping our steps light.
Most of all… thank you El, thank you Christine, thank you Marielle, thank you Madi, thank you Jeanne, thank you Katie, thank you Jess. This wouldn’t have happened without you. So lovely. So real. So fun. Whirligig’s got some momentum now!
