On August 20, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson announced an extension for Florida’s agricultural producers to apply for more than $600 million in disaster assistance for impacts from the 2023 and 2024 hurricane seasons. Florida producers now have until January 1, 2027, to apply for the Florida Block Grant Disaster Relief Program. Few animals generate as much conversation around the ranch as the coyote. Coyotes are nearly everywhere in Florida now — they reached the Panhandle in the late 1960s, expanded rapidly through the following decades, and are now established in all 67 counties. Worth noting: they aren’t an invasive or introduced species here. They spread into Florida naturally as the native red wolf disappeared, and the state recognizes them as established through that range expansion. They are here to stay.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has issued a Crisis Emergency Exemption authorizing the use of Centric® 40WG (thiamethoxam) for the management of pasture mealybug in Florida pasture grasses and rangeland.
