Field update! 🌱

Last week we had a frost with lots of rain and this week we’ve hit upper 80’s and even 90 degrees nearly every day… we’re working hard to get the seedlings out there and growing safely, but Mother Nature is being a bit moody at the moment and these plant babies are *fragile* 😅. The field is about 50% planted and what’s out there is doing great so far. Fingers crossed we can get the rest in the ground SOON! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

We cannot wait for the field to be colorful and filled with all your beautiful faces in just a couple months! Hoping for a late-July opening and you can bet it’s gonna be the best Meadow yet! 💐

Opening dates will be posted here and on our website, just as soon as we have a better estimate.

To the Mamas in the trenches of motherhood, the Grandmas holding generations together, the Mamas-to-be dreaming of those tiny little hands and feet, and the women carrying the weight of love in quiet, unseen ways…

This weekend I hope you are celebrated for the early mornings, the late nights, the sacrifices, the patience, the strength, and the endless love that shapes the world around us, every single day.

Thought I’d go through some frequently asked questions as we near sale day…

What’s a dahlia? So glad you asked 😉🫠

Dahlia is this beautiful flower originally from Mexico and can take on many different forms once it blooms! The most common and the ones we grow are ball shape, decorative, and dinner plate! They come in all shapes colors and sizes which makes it so fun and exciting to see them bloom and create a bouquet made up of different textures, creating unique beauty in each bouquet.

How do they grow?

Each variety was once started from a seed. From there, the grower harvested the clump of tubers from the dirt once the growing season was over, divided the clump and then planted the tubers again the following season. These tubers are all clones of the original plant and multiply quickly, but guarantee the exact same flower every season!

Where do they grow best?

Tubers grow best planted about 4-5” deep in soil that’s nutrient rich, a little bit sandy is even ideal, with good drainage and full sun. Some negligence is best, for the fact that they don’t like to be too wet or they can become rotten underground. In fact, on the farm here we don’t water any dahlia beds until we see sprouts above ground or if it’s incredibly dry weather for a long period. Really, they’re pretty simple to get started and maintain!

A frost still covers the field, but one precious little flower decided it was the perfect time to bloom! 🌸

Our baby girl arrived last week, safe and sound, bringing warmth, love and joy to our winter days 🤍

Thank you for all the love, prayers and well-wishes! So grateful for the village we have to help keep our world spinning… feeling so very blessed by so many 🥹

My goodness, where has the winter gone?! Perhaps is the lack of snow that’s giving me the “flower itch” or maybe it’s these random 50 degree days snuck into February… either way, we’re gearing up for a wonderful season of flowers ahead! ☀️

What we’ve got comin’ up ⤵️

🌱Seed starting begins so soon! Thousands and thousands of little seeds planted in our basement and grown with big hopes, dreams, and a whole lot of love!

🌸 We’ll once again be kicking off the season with our DAHLIA TUBER SALE! We’re planning for a Saturday, March 28th sale date and will begin shipping/pickups as soon as the weather allows, typically mid-April!

🌻After tuber shipping is complete, we will be in full on transplanting mode for summer annuals, allowing our u-picks to begin late-July!
