💧 What Is Point-of-Use Water Filtration?

Point-of-use (POU) filtration treats water at the exact location it’s used—like your kitchen sink—rather than the entire home.

Why that matters:
• Targets the water you actually drink and cook with
• Reduces chlorine, sediment, and bad tastes at the tap
• Improves water quality without the cost of a whole-home system
• Helps cut down on bottled water and plastic waste

It’s a simple, effective way to improve everyday water quality where it counts most.

Ever wonder how city water is allowed to have “stuff” in it?

Here’s the quick version of how it works.
City water has to meet something called Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs).
That’s the EPA’s rulebook that says “this is the highest amount of a contaminant allowed in drinking water.”

Think of it like a speed limit for chemicals.
Not zero.

Just a maximum line they can’t cross.

Important things to know:
✔ MCLs are not zero
Even safe, legal water can still contain chlorine, chloramines, hardness minerals, PFAS, and other contaminants.
✔ Utilities work hard to stay below the limit
But the limit is still the limit. It doesn’t mean the water is contaminant-free.
It means the level is considered safe for long-term consumption.
✔ New science causes MCLs to change
Maximum contaminant levels have changed over time as we learn more about what these chemicals do to the human body.
What was considered “acceptable” ten years ago might not be acceptable today.
✔ Homeowners can choose stricter standards
If you want water cleaner than the legal minimum, that’s where home treatment comes in.

Filtration. Softening. Reverse osmosis. UV.
You set the standard — not the regulator.

Tom hated the feeling of his water and the taste and smell of the water. He decided on an AO Smith Specialized solutions with Water Efficiency Technology (so his salt lasts 4+ months); wifi enabled so we can see any errors and fix them before he gets bad water & the system sanitizes itself with every regeneration. It removes hardness, chlorine, chlorine by-products, tastes, and odors.

Why wait to have great water? 12 months same as cash financing with 90 days deferred payments. 863-619-8214 - Text or call to schedule your free water test.

Homeowner annual checklist:

- Check bypass can be easily turned
- Check power cord and outlet cover is in good condition
- Check that there is a spigot either before or after water treatment equipment at the location of the water treatment equipment.
- Check that the main shut off of the water (after the well/water meter but before water treatment) is in place and functional
- Check that the brine tank is in good condition without leaks or holes

We can do your annual maintenance where we will also change filters/UV bulbs, test raw and treated water to verify system is set up and working properly. For systems that do not auto sanitize we will sanitize the system. We will take apart the valve and clean or replace screens, injectors, seals, pistons, and O-rings. If you are low on salt we can also re-fill (if you know you need salt let us know so we make sure we have enough on the truck for your maintenance)

What is causing that odor in my well water?

Many companies will assume you have sulfur in your water and sell you a sulfur filter or a chlorine injection system which will run people anywhere from $2500-$4500 WITHOUT testing the water for sulfur.

What else can cause odors in well water?
- Tannins - smells earthy/swampy and can discolor water and cause yellow staining
- Sulfur Reducing Bacteria - will grow well in warm water lines. Will cause oily sheen in back of toilers (that don't have chlorine in them), and can actually foul up water treatment equipment and reduce water pressure.
- Iron Bacteria - will grow in warm water with dissolved or solid iron present. Will create rusty colored sheen or biofilm in the backs of toilets.

Determining the cause will then lead to the most cost effective solution that will work for what is causing the odor. Make sure your water treatment company is testing for sulfur on-site to get the most accurate readings.

What is causing that stain?

For Pink or orange stains: These will typically show up where water pools or standing water (bottom of showers, toilet bowls, toilet tanks, around sink drains).

How can you tell what is causing it? If you put bleach on the stain does it disappear? If so, that is caused by a bacteria from the air that is growing in the sitting water. Best way to treat long-term is to install a chlorine injection in the toilet tank OR use chlorine tank tablets in the back of the toilets.

If the bleach doesn't remove it, most likely this is iron staining. Iron staining will also be on shower vertical surfaces that are often dry. This issue is typically only on well water sources or if your house has galvanized plumbing that is deteriorating.

The first picture is bacteria (also called pink mold) and the second picture is iron staining.

Most people assume that if their municipal water supply has bacteria in it, they’d be notified immediately.

But here’s the surprising truth:

👉 A municipal water source can have up to 5% of its monthly samples test positive for Total Coliform bacteria and still meet regulatory standards—meaning no notice is required to customers.

Total Coliform isn’t usually harmful on its own, but it’s an indicator that something in the system isn’t right—aging infrastructure, a breach, or conditions where more dangerous bacteria could grow. And unless that threshold is exceeded or E. coli shows up, you’ll never hear about it.

That’s why so many homeowners feel blindsided when a boil water notice suddenly pops up in their texts or on the evening news.

Here’s the good news:

💡 A UV disinfection system gives you a permanent safety net.
It neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and pathogens at the point where water enters your home—so you don’t have to worry about what’s happening miles away in a distribution system you don’t control.

With UV protection:

✔ No more panicking over unexpected boil water advisories
✔ No more worrying about sampling thresholds or system failures
✔ Consistent, microbially safe water 24/7—regardless of what your municipality reports

Municipal water systems do their best, but they’re dealing with aging pipes and millions of gallons under pressure every day.

A simple UV unit lets you take control of the part that matters most: the water your family actually drinks.

We offer 12-months same as cash financing and rental options starting at $88/mo. (service included). Call 863-619-8214 for a free water test and estimate.
