🐟 FISH OF THE WEEK: Spatuloricaria evansii — Built for the Rapids!

Known to science since 1892, Spatuloricaria evansii is a fascinating and rarely seen South American whiptail catfish found across river systems in Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina.

🌊 Built for fast water: Its long, flattened body is designed for life in powerful river currents.

🪨 Natural camouflage: Mottled tan, gray, and brown coloration helps it disappear among rocks and riverbeds.

📏 Impressive size: This whiptail can approach a foot in length, although many aquarium specimens remain around 8 inches.

💨 Loves oxygen-rich water: Clean, pristine water with high dissolved oxygen is important for this rapids-dwelling species.

🍽️ Not your typical algae eater: S. evansii is an omnivore that does best with a varied mix of meaty and vegetable-based foods.

❤️ With the right conditions, this peaceful and unusual whiptail can make an incredible centerpiece in a South American community aquarium.

🐟A must have for royal pleco collectors, Panaque armbrusteri (L027b Platinum Royal Plecos) are now available!🐟

Adult L027b tend to be darker colored, more cream and black than brown and gold/green, with thinner tail stripes compared to others of the species. Some fish have a notably pale base color that is such a light cream it is almost white giving credence to their other common name of the platinum royal pleco.
