First competition of 2026 is in the books! The Puyallup Spring Fair BBQ Playoffs was a great event and featured 35 great teams. Our scores continue to improve from one competition to the next, and that has been great to see.

Chicken - 7th place
Ribs - 19th place
Pork - 21st place
Brisket - 23rd place

Overall - 17th place

I got to cook with my wife Katarina-Lyn Quesada-Pierce this weekend for her first competition experience and it was a blast! She had some good suggestions on ways to improve our cooking area, namely a dedicated prep table, which we will be sure to have for our next competition. Continued thanks as well to the BBQ Sensei himself Jason T Aqui for continuing to lend me his wisdom and knowledge.

We had a great time at the Big Smoke in Little Kalama this past weekend! Vending lines were long and we sold out pretty quickly both days, thank you for coming to try our food.

Big thanks are in order to the BBQ Sensei himself Jason T Aqui of BBQ Aloha. He was an incredible help for guidance with the competition in terms of preparation, ex*****on, and presentation. He also was a huge help with vending, it was a pleasure working together this weekend.

We managed two calls on competition day as they called the top 15 teams. Out of 34 teams this weekend we finish:

9th Place Chicken
14th Place Ribs
28th Place Pork
20th Place Brisket
17th Place Overall

The Big Smoke in Little Kalama was a huge success this year and continues to get better every year. Can't wait for next year!

It has been a while since the last competition for Jack's Smoke Shack but you can find me at the Big Smoke in Little Kalama this weekend! Jason T Aqui from BBQ Aloha will be helping me out this weekend, hopefully we can earn some calls.

We will be serving up Brisket, Pulled Pork, Ribs & Rib Tips, and Mac & Cheese all weekend plus competition extras on Sunday.

Look for us on the north end of the BBQ Arena under the green tent.

North Puget Sound friends! I'll be competing in a barbecue competition this weekend up in Mt. Vernon at Camp Korey, and Saturday September 7th will be open to the public for vending and sampling. It's all part of a fundraiser for Camp Korey (formerly Camp Brotherhood for all you former Bothell Cougars that went to fall football camp there).

In addition to great food, there will be live music, kids activities, local vendors, games, prizes, and a beer garden. It will be open to the public 11am-5pm Saturday. The competition on Sunday isn't open to the public, but we will all be cooking up better food for you all than we will be cooking Sunday anyways.

If you really love GOOD barbecue, come up and you won't be disappointed. It helps support a great community center that I benefited from years ago, under a different name and ownership then, but carries the same mission now, to support kids!

Oh yeah! I had some fun Veteran's Day Weekend competing with some of the best people around. Still dialing in this competition BBQ stuff but I'm getting closer with each cook. I feel like the rubs and sauces I am making are slowly getting to where the judges would like them to be, especially with Chicken, Brisket and Ribs. Pork shoulder..... You gotta get it together! 😂

We up at it again! Calm before the storm. The Clearwater Grillfest starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday. Saturday is the main vending day, Sunday is competition day. Vending both days but more of a limited menu to be expected as we're all focused on the competition.

Huge props to Rose and co. for putting on Big Smoke in Little Kalama, it was such an amazing event and it is only their second year! Both vending and competition went well. I got my first call with 8th place in chicken and 12th place in brisket. I've got some marching orders to improve for the next competition.

Next competition is the Clearwater Grillfest in July 8th and 9th. Should be a great event.
