Hi! Our 4-H online sale is open! The youth are not able to have a live auction this year due to covid (stupid covid). So we are doing an online sale. The youth will be selling their animals as well as youth market items on this website. Please share with others, get the word out and let's support our youth.
https://jeffco4hfair.square.site/
If you're interested or have any questions please reach out to me.

These youth (my kid included) have worked so hard on their project animals. These animals are well cared for and loved like none other. Any of these youth can tell you what they have been feeding, their exercise regimen, what types of meat on the animal would be best, etc. Please consider supporting the youth of our future. Most of the kids apply the money toward their next animal and/or college.

Market opens on the 21st and will go until the 9th of August.

If you can’t purchase a whole animal, find some friends who may be interested in going in on it with you. If you dont need the meat then please consider doing a donation ('add-on') for their hard work.
Thanks

Today has been a fantastic day of scouting! We participated in the BSA National Camp-In and got to hear from an astronaut, a ninja warrior, a survival skills team, an animator, a movie producer, and it's not done yet!

***ACTION ITEMS TO SAVE THE JEFFCO FAIRGROUNDS***

Per the County Manager and members of the Fairgrounds Advisory Board, here’s a list of action items that we can all respectfully take to try and save our Fairgrounds:

1. Go to the Finance section of the Jeffco website at www.Jeffco.us/3839 to post your comments, questions, and solutions (the online form is in the text at the top right under “Have a question or idea?”)

2. Email all three of the County Commissioners (District 1 is Libby Szabo, District 2 is Casey Tighe, District 3 Lesley Dahlkemper) and be sure to also request that they take public comments before any decisions are made at: https://www.jeffco.us/formcenter/Board-of-County-Commissioners-6/Contact-the-Board-of-County-Commissioner-135. Or you may call them at 303-271-8525.

3. Attend the Commissioner meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, starting at 8:00AM in Hearing Room One at the Jefferson County Courts and Administration Building at 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden when the Fairgrounds will be on their agenda. Public comment will NOT be taken, but we can politely demonstrate our support by wearing our cowboy hats/boots/belts, our Westernaires uniforms, our 4-H ribbons, or even handmade “Save our Fairgrounds” tee-shirts.

4. If there are youth in your household, they can send a powerful message by handwriting letters (or drawing pictures if they’re too young to write) and mailing them to:
Board of County Commissioners
100 Jefferson County Parkway Suite 5550
Golden, CO 80419

5. Reach out to our other elected officials in Jefferson County to remind them that they also have a vested interest in making sure the Fairgrounds can stay open:
The Assessor, Scot Kersgaard: https://www.jeffco.us/assessor
The Clerk and Recorder, George Stern: https://www.jeffco.us/clerk-recorder
The Corner, Annette Cannon: https://www.jeffco.us/coroner
The District Attorney, Peter Weir: https://www.jeffco.us/district-attorney
The Sheriff, Jeff Shrader: https://www.jeffco.us/sheriff
The Surveyor, Bryan Douglass https://www.jeffco.us/planning-zoning
The Treasurer, Jerry DiTullio: https://www.jeffco.us/treasurer

7. Join the Jefferson County Horse Council! Our strength is in our numbers as an umbrella advocacy group with a mission of promoting and protecting horses in Jeffco: http://www.jeffcohorse.com

6. Share this list with everybody you know in Jefferson County!

Thank you.

The quality services the county provides to residents and local businesses come at a cost. Taxpayer dollars allow the county to deliver vital services but continued increasing demand for services has created a significant financial challenge.

FYI friends and supporters of agriculture and community
RE: Jeffco Fairgrounds possible Closure:

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, there will be a meeting in the Green Mountain Room, Jeffco Fairgrounds starting at 7:00PM. The County Manager and staff will be addressing the Fairgrounds Advisory Board about the future of the Fairgrounds. Since Proposition CC did not pass in 2019, all Jeffco Facilities have been under pressure to cut their budgets; and the County Manager is looking at the Fairgrounds as a place to make major cuts. The presentation is intended to be educational and informative, but as related to the Fairgrounds and meeting the budget, under consideration are: (1) maintaining the status quo, (2) ending the Fair (already done I do believe), (3) moving the Fairgrounds (as anyone who has moved recently knows, that is not a cheap thing to do), or (4) closing the Fairgrounds.

These are some things being looked at, and nothing is in stone yet. However, the County Manager plans to give his recommendations to the Board of Commissioners at their Tuesday, February 4, 2020, meeting. Not much time is planned for community involvement in this decision-making process.

In the words of a member of the Jefferson County Horse Council: “If we lose the Fairgrounds, there will be no place for us to do horse events in the area.” In the words of a retired 4-H volunteer and mom: “If the Fairgrounds are lost, youth educational programs including 4-H, High School Rodeo and Westernaires will either lose a central and safe location to learn, or will be so adversely effected that these historic county programs will cease to exist.”

First, it was letting inmates out early from the jail. Now, Jefferson County may be considering another cost-saving measure to deal with budget issues.
