Our Story
[About Us] Reverie Equestrian is a hunter/jumper/equitation training program operating out of historic Woodbrook Stables in Lakewood, Washington. We offer a complete lesson program to riders of all levels. From the first lesson we create an individualized training plan to help each horse and rider maximize their potential. We believe in a holistic approach to training and our team includes an equine chiropractor, massage therapist, on-site farrier, and a team of equine veterinary specialists at Tacoma Equine. We strive to help both rider and equine athlete achieve their own goals at their own pace. Contact us today to learn more, set up a lesson and get ready to join our community! [About the Trainer] Michaela Lee-Bennett began riding at 5 years old. She caught the horse fever thanks to her Dad, who dutifully led her around in circles, rain or shine, on a special little pony named Careb. A few short months into her lead-line career, Dad decided it was time for lessons and Michaela never looked back. Michaela rode whatever horses came her way, developing them on the local hunter/jumper circuit until she was 12 years old when she began leasing an appendix quarter horse, Casual Affair, and started showing all over the Pacific Northwest. A few years later she purchased an OTTB gelding, Hakuna Matata, and later an Oldenburg/Thoroughbred mare, Reverie and began competing on the jumper circuit, winning many championships along the way. At age 16 Michaela became the assistant trainer at Fox Bay Farm in Ferndale, Washington under the tutelage of Margaret Clumpner, a former grand-prix rider who was long listed for the Canadian Olympic team. Michaela gained invaluable experience riding many different kinds of horses, showing many dressage horses as well as hunters and jumpers. Along the way she has ridden with top rider/trainers Linda Allen, Michael Matz, Greg Best and West Coast equitation guru Barbie Whitworth. Seventeen years after her very first horse show, Michaela has continued to show on the A Circuit, as well continued her commitment to lifelong learning by attending clinics with top teachers in the industry in order to improve her riding as well as improve and refine her teaching. She continues to ride with NW trainers and clinicians from around the country such as Sally Collins, Juliana Zunde and Noel Clark. Teaching has always been a passion and Michaela gravitated towards teaching lessons to riders of all ages and abilities. From summer camps to spending weeks on the show circuit, Michaela loves spending time with her students and helping them to achieve their goals at any level. She believes the greatest reward of teaching is seeing the horse and rider transform from individuals working, as separate parts, into a seamless team, working as one. The connection between horse and rider is the foundation Michaela’s training program and she strives to focus on finding the right partnership for each rider. In 2012 Michaela took the plunge and founded Reverie Equestrian, named after her one-in-a-million show jumper. Michaela lives in Lakewood, Washington with her partner Justin and their son Declan. They have a menagerie of animals including 3 cats (Blue, HK and Sandy), pup Sadie Grace and horse Phoenix. She also works as a critical care charge nurse at St. Clare Hospital.
