Hat Creek Cattle Company is a family owned and operated farm located in SW Missouri.

We raise grass-fed, grass-finished lean beef and registered Texas Longhorn cattle.

GLR Double Mermaid is the newest addition to our herd. Her pedigree includes a double shot of RC Pacific Mermaid (100”TTT), who is an extremely consistent producer. We’ve been anxiously waiting an opportunity to add this bloodline to our herd.

Some may just see a red cow but we see a promising producer with a sound foundation. Thanks Mark Gilliland of Gilliland Ranch for allowing us to purchase this powerhouse of a female.

Rumor has it that the seeds of persimmon trees can forecast what old man winter has in store.

According to folklore, if you crack open a persimmon seed from a ripe fruit and the shape inside (called a cotyledon) looks like a fork, winter will be mild; if you see a spoon, there will be a lot of snow, and if there is a knife, winter will be bitingly cold and “cut like a knife.”

Time will tell…

The first calf crop by Night Shift (HAPPY 9 x SHAMROCK RIO VAN HORNE) is hitting the ground. This wasn’t the heifer calf that we’d hoped for but is definitely a healthy bull calf with a strong foundation and color. Stay tuned for more offspring by Night Shift.

AA Star Bright and her heifer safely arrived at their new home in Pennsylvania. These two colorful females and proven pedigrees will be a great addition to the program at Moon Phase Ranch. Check out their herd online. Thanks to Aprill Siegel of Moon Phase Ranch for purchasing this beautiful pair!

Don’t farm naked…plant cover crops!

The past two years of drought have made us rethink our grazing strategies and forced us to challenge the norm with how we manage our pastures. This fall we’re exploring a diverse cover crop mix that contains over 15 different species of plants, some annual, others perennial. We’ve planted cover crops in the past with decent success. The mixture was planted on three different types of pasture so that we could get a better understanding of how they each respond. Maybe a flop, maybe a home run…time will tell.

We’ve never been in a partnership on a bull until this year. ZIGZAG (TUFF COWBOY DC x JEST DRAGGING IRON) is our first. He’s currently covering a group of our up and coming heifers. The 2024 Spring calving season should provide us with some tremendous offspring! We’re thankful for our first partnership opportunity to be with Todd McKnight of CedarView Ranch and John Hale of Red Rock Ranch. Spring calving season is coming to an end. The majority of calves born this year have been heifers, which helps to strengthen the foundations we’re developing .

This year’s calf crop includes countless well known pedigrees. Just to name a few…Cowboy Chex, WS Sun Star, JP Rio Grande, Jammin Tex, Cowboy Casanova & Gala Show of Stars.

We’d like to give a shoutout to Flatland Longhorns for purchasing lot HC Bottoms Up and Montgomery Briggs Ranch for purchasing lot #3 CV Macy May at the Bluegrass sale this past weekend. Similar to last year, we wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help from Weston Hetland who helped pave the way and Cedarview Ranch who helped us to build strong foundations!

Lot H4 of the Bluegrass sale is our homegrown HC Bottoms Up. This heifer displays tremendous conformation and bold colors that are equally impressive . The icing on the cake….she sells confirmed bred to Eagle Texa for a fall 2023 calf.
