Howell Farm is a time machine that takes visitors to the year 1900, when horse drawn buggies traveled the lanes of Pleasant Valley and when farms were bordered by snake fences and Osage orange trees. Each year, over 65,000 visitors experience their rural heritage through the living history programs offered at the farm. The Friends of Howell Living History Farm is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organizati

on which lends support and assistance to the Mercer County Park Commission in their operation of the farm. The Friends' support helps the farm grow its award-winning educational programs and preservation efforts, bringing the history of our region to life for school children, families and other members of our community. If you'd like to become part of an irreplaceable community treasure by making a gift today, or by becoming a member of the Friends, please visit us on the web at www.howellfarm.org.

Art & Fiddling at the farm today!

Howell Farm's Fiddlin' Contest starts this Saturday 8/29/2026 at high noon. What do you think of last year's performers?

https://howellfarm.org/

Fine fiddlin’ will fill the air when some of the area’s best musicians bring their talents to the farm during the annual contest sponsored by the Hunterdon Folk Exchange. Now in its 36th year, the contest is the largest and longest-running traditional fiddle contest in New Jersey. Visitors can expect to find fiddlers, guitarists, mandolinists and more perched on porches, tucked under trees, and spread out on the lawn playing traditional folk and bluegrass music...and sharing the stories of their historic instruments.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for the contest, which begins at 12:00 under the trees on the farmhouse lawn. The day will also feature homemade food, ice cream, horse-drawn wagon rides, a children’s craft, and a closing performance featuring 30 fiddlers.

Special thanks to all the performers and supporters from last year, you were fantastic!
