I have had some people asking and yes, I do still have some honey left for sale. If you are interested please let me know. I have limited quantities of the lighter spring honey and more of the darker fall honey, so if you prefer spring please let me know

The bees were out flying today. Was able to get into the hives and place winter patties, all 14 hives are currently looking strong

Such a beautiful color to this honey I just bottled yesterday. This dark, almost red honey is from primarily golden rod and aster and was harvested in late September. It has a more robust and full flavor as well as a slight spice to it. Great for baking, putting in your tea, or spreading on some toast for a nice change in flavor.

If you would like some I have it available in 10oz for $8, 22oz for $15, and 44oz for $28.

Great as a last minute gift for that person you just don’t know what to get.

A lot of people ask what the bees do in the winter…they go into what is known as a stupor (low activity state) and spend the winter in the hive clustered together to keep the queen warm. On a nice sunny day they will come out to take a short flight to relieve themselves and then they go back in the hive.

Even on this cool and overcast day the bees are out working. This girl here is collecting nectar from the blackberry flowers. While she does this she will take pollen from one flower to the next which will pollinate the flowers.

Yesterday I found that one of the hives had built some comb in the wrong place, if I left it alone it would just turn into a bigger mess with time making it near impossible to do inspections. I removed the comb and it was full of honey so I strained it out and got some of the most beautiful light honey with an amazing floral smell. Can not wait until the rest of the honey is ready to harvest in a few weeks.

Here is one of my beautiful queen bees (she is the one with the yellow dot on her back). The color that the queen is marked with corresponds to the year she was born.

This queen was born last year so she is marked with yellow. A queen born in 2023 would be marked in red.

The average lifespan of a queen bee is 2-3 years though she can live for up to 5 years.
