I never post my intent for beers. Usually just the ingredients and quick stats. I’ll try to change that going forward because behind the glassware and liquid is a story.
I got into craft beer through an unusual route. The early 2010’s of craft beer and high IBU’s turned me off. I was always hesistant to try new ones until the haze craze and heavily fruited/adjuncted beers came along. They were a familiar taste and flavor. So when I started homebrewing I quickly gravitated to trying to replicate them.
A couple of my early adjuncted homebrews were well received and a few won some local awards. But some of my homebrewer friends would make light hearted jokes about my brewing style. Although it was friendly banter, it stuck a chord. Semi-recently I started to hone in on the classics. In my eyes the true test would be to create a great American light lager. So I did just that.
“Yes! That’s Beer!” American Light Lager took 1st place in the local Lancaster homebrew competition back in March for the Light American/British beers category and it has held up incredibly well in the can. It then advanced to the best of show table..no dice there.
