It won’t be long before they’re out on pasture, scratching, pecking, and enjoying that fresh Kentucky sunshine. We’re excited to watch them grow! 💚

And there’s even more happening at Boone Trace Creamery… We’re hopeful that two doeling bottle babies will be arriving next month! 🐐🍼❤️

So… could I get some advice, please? 😁

Now that we officially have a rooster, I’m assuming some of our eggs are going to be fertile. 🐓🥚

How do I handle them if I want to try incubating some?

Do I collect the eggs for a few days and then put them all in the incubator at once? And when exactly should I candle them?

I’ve already experienced what happens when hens hatch fertile eggs — I purchased fertile eggs before, for a broody hen, and unfortunately, the hens ate the babies. 😳

I’m honestly not sure I have the stomach to go through that again!

So, for those of you who have experience hatching chicks, what would you recommend? Incubator? Broody hen? Separate setup?

Give me all your advice! I’m still relatively new to chicken life, so I’m learning as I go. 😂🐔

It’s a boy! 🐓😂

We were pretty sure this one was a rooster, but being relatively new to chicken life — only a couple of years in — and having only ever had hens, we couldn’t say 100% for sure.

Until today. 😁

Yep… definitely a boy! 😂

I guess we officially have a rooster now. 🐓❤️
