**Want to know what I learned?** 🦃💦

Turkeys cool themselves off by standing in water! 😂

I learned that this summer when Jenny was panting pretty hard in the heat. I always keep a fresh bowl of water out for the chickens so they can dip their beaks, and I figured Jenny would do the same. And she does!

But apparently, dipping her beak wasn't nearly as effective for her as it is for the chickens.

So, a little research led me to get her a container big enough for her to stand—or even lay—in so she could cool herself off.

**Little did I know, the fresh bowl of drinking water was her first choice!** 🤣

Farm life… there's always something new to learn! 🌱🦃

This is TERRIFYING! 😱🕷️

I’ve never seen a spider web of this magnitude! It literally encompasses three black walnuts. 🕸️

I’d love to investigate it… if it wasn’t so incredibly scary-looking! 😂

Yep—after seeing this, as icky as bumblefoot surgery was, I’d take that over investigating this web ANY day! 🤣

Have I mentioned how fortunate we feel? ❤️

I'm enjoying a cup of coffee outside and noticing the leaves are starting to change colors and it's caused me to pause and reflect on our Boone Trace Creamery journey, I’m amazed at how far we’ve come in just a few short months. It has taken hard work, patience (which has definitely been challenging!), drive, and a whole lot of teamwork.

Along the way, we’ve felt like we’ve had someone powerful looking over us, opening doors and helping guide the way. We are also fortunate to have so many other farm and homestead followers that post their experiences that we can learn from.

One of the greatest blessings has been having a little extra to share. We’ve been able to donate to our local food bank, including fresh eggs and meat chickens.

We’re incredibly grateful for how far we’ve come — and excited for what’s ahead. ❤️

We’re working on our manners here at Boone Trace Creamery… 😂

Apparently, waiting your turn is NOT part of the curriculum.

“Excuse me, ma’am… that’s my hand.” 🤣

Farm life. You gotta love it. ❤️🦃

🐔 My first bumblefoot surgery… yesterday. 😲

Yesterday I tackled something I had never done before—treating bumblefoot on one of our White Face Black Spanish laying hens.

I was definitely nervous, but farm life means learning new things and doing what needs to be done for the animals in our care. I'm grateful we caught it early.

It wasn’t exactly how I planned to spend my evening, but I’m grateful for the experience, the lesson, and the chance to help one of our girls.

One more farm lesson learned. ❤️🐔

🐔 Tomorrow is a humbling day at Boone Trace Creamery.

Tomorrow, our first batch of meat chickens will be harvested.

When we started this journey, we knew we wanted to raise our chickens with plenty of fresh air, sunshine, pasture, and good care. What we didn’t fully understand was just how much goes into raising food from the very beginning to the very end.

The feed.
The daily care.
The time.
The work.
The expense.

And the responsibility of caring for an animal that will ultimately provide nourishment for someone’s family.

It has given us an even greater appreciation for the food we put on our own table.

There is something incredibly humbling about knowing that tomorrow these chickens will become meals for families in our community.

We are grateful for every part of this journey—and especially grateful for the opportunity to raise food with intention and purpose.

Our first batch of pasture-raised, Non-GMO-fed whole chickens will be processed tomorrow, then frozen and available for purchase.

❤️ If you’ve been waiting for one, we would love for you to be part of our very first harvest.

We’re conveniently located just off Highway 52, a few minutes east of Lancaster. Send us a message to reserve yours.

Thank you for following our journey, encouraging us, and supporting Boone Trace Creamery as we take these first steps. Your support means more than you know.

🌟 Do you think she is spoiled? 🌟

My Jenny girl is one spoiled turkey! She gets a snack right out of the bag. 😄

Every day is moving day at Boone Trace! 🐔🌱

The chicken tractor gets a fresh move every morning, and these chickens absolutely LOVE it! 😍

Fresh grass, fresh bugs, sunshine, and plenty of room to scratch, peck, and do what chickens were meant to do. 🌿🐛☀️

They know the routine now—tractor moves, doors open, and they’re off to explore their new patch of pasture! 😂

Happy chickens = happy farmer! ❤️🐔
