I remember going pheasant hunting with my Dad and uncles when I was little. They had real guns and I had a silver cowboy cap gun with a black marble in it for the bullet. 😁
It's been years since we've seen or even heard a pheasant on the farm so this was a fun surprise.

Most of our tour groups are youngsters between 5 and 10 years old. On Wednesday, we got a little different experience sharing our farm with a group of college kids! Members of the Kansas State University Dairy Science Club stopped for a visit on their way to World Dairy Expo! They were very interested in learning about Virtual fencing.
While we were in the pasture, I showed them how I moved the boundary on my phone and within minutes, the heifers surrounded us and moved into the new paddock with fresh grass (check out the differences in grass height in the pictures!)
When elementary school students are here, their questions are the typical- "do brown cows give chocolate milk?" "Why does it smell so bad?" It was a wonderful change being asked questions about production, management, the state of the dairy industry, etc. Great group of young adults, genuinely curious about our farm and all that is involved!

Our farm is home to dairy and beef cows, sheep, hogs, chickens, and cats.
What many forget is the habitat we provide for a wide variety of wildlife. Coyotes, bobcats, owls, ground hogs, snakes, turtles, turkey and deer!
