My sage that came back this year, since it was covered with 2 feet of snow during our subzero temperatures, is now blooming beautifully! I didn't know it did that.

Next month it will be 12 years ago that my family and I moved to the Midwest. Our home in the East had a huge lilac bush that nearly reached the 2nd story windows. I loved the sweet aroma it made when in bloom. I have planted multiple lilacs since moving. But unfortunately, they have had many detrimental accidents that claimed their lives....lawn mowers, w**d whackers, goats, overly ambitious w**d pullers....4 years ago, I tried again...I put a tire around the small twig when I planted it....then as someone was w**d whacking the brush that fall...it was chopped off. I figured it wouldn't survive....but to my surprise it came up again the next spring! I was so happy....but before I could really enjoy it...it was mistaken for a rogue tree and had the trimmer vigorously applied...πŸ˜ͺ....last year I was successful in my endeavors to protect it and, to my complete delight, it now has flower buds!!! I might actually have my own lilac once again.πŸ˜ƒ

I was delighted to see that my peas that Oscar and I planted 10 days ago are up and doing well. We also have a few cabbage plants growing.πŸ«›πŸ₯¬

Saturday was our greenbean processing day....my husband acquired 2 banana boxes full of greenbeans from the local produce auction. Our grow bags did provide lots of greenbeans for fresh eating and dehydrating to make veggie powder....but I wanted more at one time to put in the freezer...they were washed, ends removed, bug bites removed, blanched, cooled down, vacuum sealed, labeled and stuck in the freezer...enough to provide veggies for 32 meals this winter.

August has been a very busy month for our family and our garden...new apartment for some children, back to college trip, tomatoes, greenbeans, cucumbers and squash abound. But today I picked some of our apples. I needed enough to make an apple pie...however, I picked more than I needed....many of the extras were from the crabapple tree...they were small, odd shaped and don't have stellar flavor like the other varieties....so I started another batch of apple c***r vinegar. I have found different methods to making my own vinegar...some start with apple c***r and some just start with apples. I am using the second method. The apples will need to soak for several weeks in the dark, being stirred every day. So I keep them on a pantry shelve for easy access and wrap the jars in a dark towel. The 1st batch was strained the other day to remove the apple peices...now it will go through the 2nd ferment and develop a stronger flavor over the next month or so. I will keep you updated when I bottle it and how it turns out. The recipe I followed will be linked in the comments. I am so thankful for the blessing of being able to garden and store up foods for use later.

I think I might need to carry a bigger bucket when I go out in the evenings to harvest for the day. We often refer to the area in front of the porch as our " tomato forest". πŸ˜ŠπŸŒ»πŸ…πŸ₯’πŸ«‘πŸ₯¬
