Homemade Apple Pie Filling
Ingredients:
6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6-8 medium apples)
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Directions:
Prepare the Apples: Start by peeling, coring, and slicing the apples. Place them in a large bowl.
Mix the Filling: In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Stir this mixture into the sliced apples until they are well coated.
Add Butter: Dot the apple mixture with small pieces of butter for extra flavor.
Cook the Filling: Pour the apple mixture into a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are slightly tender but still hold their shape.
Cool Down: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the filling cool before using it in your favorite pie recipe.
