We operate with precision, experience, and a no-nonsense approach to poultry breeding and nutrition. Whether you’re looking to add high-quality birds to your flock or feed them the best, we’ve got you covered.

Question for chicken owners: are your birds livestock, pets or employees?

One thing we’ve learned over the years is that you don’t have to travel across the country to find places worth exploring. Every state, county, and town has its own trails, creeks, overlooks, waterfalls, and hidden spots that most people drive past without ever seeing. We appreciate living in an area where places like this are practically in our backyard, and it’s a good reminder that some of the best experiences in life are still free.

Today’s hike took us through Tucquan Glen & Pyfer Nature Preserves near Holtwood, Pennsylvania. The preserve contains 437 acres of protected woodland, rocky stream valleys, waterfalls, and trails connected to the Conestoga Trail system that also links to the Holtwood Pinnacle overlook. Tucquan Creek itself is designated a Pennsylvania Scenic River and eventually empties into the Susquehanna. The area sits within the historic homeland of the Susquehannock people, whose name is commonly translated as “People of the Muddy River,” the same people who gave the Susquehanna River its name. It’s a beautiful piece of Lancaster County history and one of the best places we’ve found for anyone who enjoys hiking, moving water, and getting away from the noise for a few hours.

Last night we dropped off 20 Cornish Cross chickens at a local Amish farm for processing. These birds are typically harvested around 8 weeks of age, but we let this group grow out to 10 weeks. The result was some impressively large birds, with our heaviest processed roosters weighing nearly 9½ to 10 pounds.

Today the next step begins: sorting, packaging, and vacuum sealing for the freezer. We are grateful for the local farmers and processors who help make small-scale agriculture possible, and thankful to have a freezer full of homegrown chicken heading into the year ahead! (I will leave a comment below to our local Amish farm butcher we use!)

☀️ Just a short drive from home, Mill Creek Falls Nature Preserve is one of those places that reminds us how much beauty exists right in our own backyard. Tucked away within the forests of the Holtwood Gorge, the preserve offers shaded trails, rock formations, flowing water, and the kind of quiet that is becoming harder to find in modern life.
Too often we convince ourselves that meaningful experiences require expensive vacations, elaborate plans, or perfect timing. The truth is that many of the things that enrich our lives most are simple, accessible, and often free. A walk through the woods, the sound of moving water, time spent with family, fresh air, sunlight, and a chance to disconnect from screens for a while can do more for the mind and spirit than we sometimes realize.
Join us for a brief tour of Mill Creek Falls Nature Preserve as we explore one of our favorite local destinations and celebrate the value of getting outside, staying curious, and making time for the places that make life a little richer.

The branding department has officially escalated operations.
I finally got The Miserable Spatula aprons and chef shirts embroidered, because if I’m going to spend every day cooking, cleaning, and questioning my life choices, I might as well look professionally miserable while doing it.
