Decided to dig up some early potatoes for Wild River Market.

Potatoes are one of the most heavily sprayed crops in industrial agriculture.

We don't use any chemicals on our farm. So these spuds are as clean as you can get.

Potatoes, onions, cabbage and beets will be available at Wild River Market Friday at opening.

Quantities are limited.

I am just one girl, passionate about healthy food, offering her abundance to the community.

I am working hard to increase my garden's production this year.

My handy husband built me a simple workstation under some cedar trees that edge the garden.

The trees provide protection from the elements. The table gives me a clean surface to work on.

Veggies get rinsed in the galvanized tub. The water can then be re-used to water my raised beds.

We just need to add a compost bin for the debris.

Getting fresh produce to Wild River Market will be so much easier now.

So excited to drop off fresh veggies this afternoon at Wild River Market.

Cabbage, Texas Super Sweet onions and purple soft neck garlic (sorry I can't remember the variety 😆).

At Fiat Farm we grow chemical-free food using biodynamic principles and regenerative practices.

Planting seeds, harvesting veggies, praying for rain. All while cultivating the garden.

When I plant my seeds, I pull back the mulch and put the seeds on the soil at the proper spacing. The seeds get covered with a good layer of compost. The compost gets re-covered with mulch.

Harvesting the cabbage, I cut the stem at soil level leaving the roots to feed the soil.

The spring veggies are coming along.

Cabbage, potatoes, onions

We are in a drought, with hardly any rain. I do not irrigate and only selectively hand water.

I think our no-till methods and deep mulch is a life saver in times like this.

Looking forward to offering some of our veggies at Wild River Market in the coming weeks.

I don't have my garden all planned out.

I just kind of "show up," start working, and the garden speaks to me.

This morning, as I was pruning my tomatoes, it gave me a solution for how to grow more in the space I have.

Plant Butternut Squash under my tomato trellis instead of in its own space.

The tomatoes grow up. The squash grows out and covers the soil. Win-win

So, with generous spacing, I moved aside my straw mulch, dumped a small bucket of compost, planted seeds then covered with more straw mulch.

Four mounds in a forty-foot space.

Now I plan to tuck some sort of squash or melon under all my tomato trellises.

I'll keep you posted

We were pig less for a while. All our Large Black hogs had graduated to the freezer.

We enjoyed having fewer chores. We appreciated the smaller feed bill.

But we missed the role pigs play on our farm.

They are the ultimate clean up crew. They process any excess or waste and turn it into protein and lard.

So I went in search of some piglets to grow out.

Here you see them sampling a few buckets of weeds from the garden.

I planted my remaining tomatoes before last night's big storm.

The farmer I buy garlic from orchestrated the dispersal of a seed library. As a result, I have some new varieties to try. Gateway Garlic Farms

Some of the seeds I received were close to 10 years old, but I was able to start enough to have seeds to send back to the farmer at the end of the season to retain the seed bank.

This is a good way to practice my goal of saving my own seeds. And to try unique heirloom varieties.

Here are my new varieties -
Jill in a Box - medium beefsteak, red with yellow stripes

Bill Bean - large red beefsteak, productive

Beauty Queen - mid-season, striped, heart shaped

Korean Long - pink, sauce/slicing
