Well Quail settled back down. You can hear them in background of this video. Lots of weekend projects to get done! (Including a fence to keep these brats from the garden)

I had a batch of old eggs I was considering for compost but the glitchy incubator held heat all day. So in these eggs go. Interestingly enough, it alarmed for low temp after I placed lid on with this batch. Dang incubator! So maybe it will work now and the cold eggs this morning was a aberration. If it doesn't, at least there's not as much to loose with homegrown Painted poults. I did order Bluetooth temp monitors for future important hatches.

I'm traumatized. The Quail are traumatized. I suspected a snake was stealing eggs. I didn't expect one in the Quail cage. It somehow got past my glue traps. I don't mind snakes minding there own business. I do mind them going for a easy meal. Nature isn't kind. Artificially supporting predators isn't wise as a homestead. We don't and I do take measures against predators that are foolish enough to test us. Its alot kinder than the overpopulation-starvation cycle that's mother nature's way of limiting predators numbers. The wary predators that mind their own business are safe. I'll recheck for holes in barn but a snake this size can sneak past alot of standard size fencing.

My Blue Tricolor Pencilled Palms have 1 egg left to hatch and 2 Pencilled Red Phoenix eggs left to hatch but the poults look great! I managed to reset the ChickCozy that went off last night but very disappointed that it doesn't have a alarm when temps drop. It's empty for now.

The full moon energy for this weekend is bad! First this weird pip on one of my hatching poults (poult now dead). Then this morning, my first ChickCozy stopped working. The display had no temp or humidity displayed but the day counter was visible. Eggs were on day 12! I found spots in my other incubators for the eggs, hopefully they will continue to develop. Marshmallow and Backwoods eggs so I'm anxious on them surviving!

Wrestling match from the other day. Occasionally we get some aggression-with our setup I can place aggressor in older poult pen for attitude adjustment at this age. I only do that if blood is drawn otherwise it's best to wait it out. These 2 quit fairly quickly but the Painted in this occasion was aggressor so he's on my watch list. We don't sell aggressive toms, we eat them. In a farm setting aggression increases stress and possible physical harm to other birds.

New poult hatched this morning! Still wobbly but drying quickly. It shouldn't be alone too long, more pips in progress. Poult will spend at least 24 hrs in incubator as it absorbs yolk and gets its land legs.

This pen are poults graduated from heat lamp, good sized and well feathered. (Remember our nights are averaging 60 F currently) lots of interesting colors and calm friendly faces.

These poults are 8 weeks old. You can see some are starting to get larger snoods already! Super calm and good sized, either I will sort out to 10 total in this pen or get them into larger pen soon. (5-27-26)

A quick visit with my youngest pen this afternoon. The smallest poults are 8 days old- you'll see a couple of them warming up under heatlamp. If you watch til end, you'll see a couple Tuxedo poults, dark with white belly. I love how relaxed everyone is in this pen.
