Worked on a few candles for the holidays. Too bad two of our markets this month were impacted by rainy weather. October has been traditionally a pretty good month for Honey and candle sales…🐝🍯🕯️

I need to take the time to listen to this.. real honey isn’t cheap and cheap honey isn’t real….

🎙️ New podcast feature: American Beekeeping Federation President Debbie Seib joins the Bee Love Beekeeping podcast to talk about two of the biggest issues facing our industry right now — honey fraud and colony losses.

In the conversation, Debbie digs into:

🐝 Why last year's colony losses topped 70% — and why even the more conservative estimates being floated are still alarming

🍯 How fake honey is hurting American beekeepers, from blended honey mislabeled as pure to imported products carrying misleading "organic" claims

📋 Why there's no USDA organic standard for domestic honey, and what that gap means for consumers trying to buy the real thing

🌱 What it will take to keep new beekeepers in the industry past their critical third year

It's a candid look at what ABF is doing — through research funding, advocacy, and the Honey Defense Fund — to protect beekeepers of every size, from hobbyists to commercial operations.

Saw something interesting today.
A goldenrod crab spider.

Goldenrod Crab Spider (Misumena vatia)

An especially interesting feature of this spider is that adult females can change color between white and yellow. They do this by controlling yellow pigments in their body, allowing them to blend surprisingly well with flowers such as goldenrod and daisies. The change isn’t instantaneous—it can take several days.

They’re ambush predators rather than web-building spiders. They sit nearly motionless on flowers and grab visiting insects with those enlarged front legs. That means they commonly capture honey bees, bumble bees, butterflies, flies, and other flower visitors.
