MSU Animal Science graduate student Melanie Pimentel Concepción presented one of her research projects at ASAS-CSAS this week in Madison, WI. Her poster was titled "Relationships between visceral organ mass and feedlot performance of Holstein steers, SimAngus x Holstein steers and heifers, and SimAngus steers". Her relatively small poster represented a lot of work, including cleaning, trimming, and weighing all of the internal organs (including the entire GI tract) from 28 finished cattle! Her results highlight that differences in organ mass among beef, beef x dairy, and dairy cattle contribute to variation in their growth and feed efficiency.
