Half Barn Farm

Half Barn Farm Locally Grown, Nutritious Produce, Herbs, Flowers and Plant Starts for the Lansing area

A local farm consisting of land in Lansing on the 600 block of South Clemens and also a rural location on Toles Road between Eaton Rapids and Mason. I want to help nourish a vibrant healthy community and local food system while being a good steward of the land for those that follow me.

Food is still an economic novelty, and yet I’d still love to have any consistent teammate(s) to grow some of it with…that understands the “nature doesn’t wait” aspect of growing plants and harvesting/preserving food. Please enjoy this picture of a broad winged tree cricket I took the other day.

I’d give anything to have any kind of teammate or reliable living being at the garden besides the feral cats. As much as I try to visualize it, I’d think something would’ve materialized by now. Alas, they’ve been the most reliable over the years. You can always count on the feral cats to s**t where they want. It’s wonderfully symbolic and how I feel a lot of times finding various ways people take advantage of my work and the space. It sure seems all the forces of nature at times. Hard to maintain any hope. That’s reality.

The lisianthus that could have been. If only local food and farming weren’t a novelty, and I hadn’t been trying alone for over a decade. Ope. Hahahaha. Worth less.

Thanks to Justin Jalisco for coming to help do some weeding the other day. It’s always on the to do list, but it sure does feel good when an area is cleared…for now. There’s plenty more tasks if anyone wants to participate in growing a local farm together. Here’s a pic of one of our new favorite tomato varieties, Burnt Sugar. Delicious, early to ripen, fairly productive and a compact plant. All great traits that we look for when determining varieties to grow.
