The 3 Sistas Farm Collective is composed of Black gardeners and farmers currently living in Lansing, Michigan. The group was founded by 3 co-founders: Hillary Coleman, Liv Furman, & Dinah George. This group of Black gardeners is committed to means of growing crops that are reflective of the ancestral practices found across the African Diaspora, in ways that seek to honor and sustain Anishinaabe and other Indigenous American growing practices, food sovereignty, and land knowledge. This collective was formed based out of a need to see representation of the Black farming and gardening community in the Lansing area (because we know, you don't have to go to Detroit to find Black farmers) but also to investigate and interrogate the process of actively building a solid relationship with the land in current times. This includes engaging with neighbors in our South Lansing community, which has a significant population of Black and other people of color who have made this space their home. Our collective has established space in the Baker-Donora Neighborhood with the help of the Ingham County landbank, and are in the process of developing the garden plan and layout. Although this collective started in 2025, all members of the collective have gardened and farmed in Lansing for the past 5-12 years.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

The 3 Sistas Farm Collective is building something truly special, and community-powered.

We are raising funds to grow and develop our farm into a thriving, accessible space that provides fresh food, hands-on education, and meaningful community connection. This vision goes beyond farming, it’s about creating a place where people can learn, gather, and (re)connect with the land and each other. Donations will go toward building and expanding our farm with items like greenhouses, soil, lumber for raised beds, tools, grow trays, sheds, fencing, signage, and farmers market supplies…everything needed to create a productive and sustainable community farm.

Your support will help us invest in essential infrastructure to bring this vision to life.

Every contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to cultivating a space rooted in nourishment, empowerment, and growth for our community. Please, share this information within your community networks and help us materialize this dream!

Thank you for being a part of this journey!

Our hearts are so full 💚

Thank you to everyone who came out to our very first volunteer day. The love, energy, and support we felt from the community was truly overwhelming in the best way. Seeing so many hands come together to help build, grow, and pour into this space meant everything to us.

Because of you, we’re one step closer to creating something beautiful and lasting. We are so grateful for each and every one of you who showed up, got your hands dirty, and believed in the vision.

This is just the beginning 🌱✨

One thing we’re doing to make our pine wood garden beds last longer is burning the wood before use. This traditional technique(Shou Sugi Ban or Yakisugi)helps seal the surface, making it more resistant to rot, pests, and weather over time.Perfect for creating beds that can really stand the test of the seasons.

Big shoutout to for the flame feeder;definitely one of the many perks of being a part of the Farm HUB at Hunter Park GardenHouse

And shoutout to , especially Ben(), for putting us on to this idea after we saw those awesome pallet tables.

Inspiration is everywhere when you’re in community!

Supporting local BIPOC farmers isn’t just about buying fresh food,it’s about investing in justice, culture, and community.

For generations, Black and Indigenous farmers have faced systemic barriers to land ownership, funding, and visibility. When you support BIPOC growers, you are helping to restore balance in a system that hasn’t always been fair.
You’re also preserving deep agricultural knowledge; ancestral growing practices, seed keeping, herbal traditions, and sustainable land stewardship that have been passed down for generations. That wisdom is powerful and necessary for our future.
And let’s be real, the food hits different. It’s grown with care, intention, and connection to the land.

When you shop local and choose BIPOC farmers, you are:
✨ Circulating money back into the community
✨ Supporting small, often family-run farms
✨ Helping create access to fresh, culturally relevant foods
✨ Standing for food sovereignty and equity

Every dollar is a vote for the kind of food system you believe in.
Support local. Support BIPOC farmers. Support the future. 🌿✊🏾
