Green Diamond Irish Draughts

Green Diamond Irish Draughts Purebred Irish Draught horse breeding barn. Irish Draught-One of the original warmbloods! We are a small Irish Draught (ID) breeding barn.

Initially located in Ohio on about 6.5 acres or so, we quickly outgrew that location and took an opportunity to purchase a family farm in Michigan, which is where we are originally from. This step allowed us to be closer to our extended families. We are currently hard at work building our dream farm from the ground up. We were fortunate enough to be able to purchase an 80 acre farm that had been i

n my husband’s family since 1959. That decision gave us some great land and just as importantly, lots of space for us and for our horses. There is nothing that we can not do here. However, building this farm will be a long term process and likely take many years. Our focus is on breeding purebred IDs with an emphasis on pursuing genetic diversity to assist with long term breed sustainability, along with a focus on producing performance horses, both of which can be combined into an purebred ID or an ID sport horse, which is an ID crossed with another breed. We believe that the Irish Draught is an ideal horse, for nearly all situations. An Irish Draught does NOT look like a traditional draft horse. It most closely resembles the currently popular warmblood horse but offers the additional bonus of being both amateur & family friendly without losing out on performance. Every horse barn should have at least one Irish Draught...or 2 or 3...! These amazing horses are considered an "endangered but maintained" breed by the U.N. (horseandhound.co.uk, 12/26/2018). Making a difference is an important goal to us. While there are a lot of horses in our world, there are not a lot of IDs, which is why we decided to venture into this area of horse breeding. The Irish Draught is an ideal horse. We intend to make a difference in this area with our horses. We have a mix of horses at our barn; there are purebred IDs, some OTTBs and a Halflinger, all of whom are treasured members of our family. We welcome visitors to our barn. If you’d like to meet some of these amazing breed ambassadors, reach out and let us know!

Tiernan (CMF Diamond Trinity ((KEC Double Diamond x Ginger’s Beauty)) helped me achieve a major bucket list goal this weekend….we successfully competed BN @ Hagyard’s MidSouth 3 Day Event and Team Challenge at the KENTUCKY HORSE PARK! 🎊

I was at the KHP as a young horse crazy kid, I have taken my kids there and have been to some huge events there since then but never thought I would RIDE my own horse there….but wait, there’s more 😂…. not only that, I also REMEMBERED my dressage test, did NOT fall off my horse (it’s a long way down even when wearing an air vest) AND as they say, finished on a number NOT a letter! 💃

We did not get a ribbon, but that’s on me. T is a unicorn 🦄 in all the ways that count. It was otherwise a very successful weekend for us. T reunited with some of his old Woodloch friends (human & horse), which appeared to make him quite happy 😁 I was able to see some friends, too.

We even rode in Rolex Arena, luckily just missing the super strong wind gusts that sent many things flying around in show jumping. ☔️🌬️

There was no Head of the Lake this year, but it didn’t matter. The cross country course rode very smoothly with great jumps, nice galloping stretches, some up and down hills and most importantly, wasn’t unnecessarily tricky.

It’s a huge show with a busy show atmosphere, which both horses picked up on immediately. Tiernan has been to KHP before but it was still exciting, even to him This was Ronan’s 1st time and while they did great in dressage, XC didn’t go so well. Ronan can jump the moon without so much as batting an eye but may have found the atmosphere a bit too much for his young horse brain (he’s 6) and that of his young teen pilot. They were not able to finish the course. He warmed up great but had too many refusals by the time they made it jump 11. This is a seriously tough sport (similar to a human triathlon) and it’s easy to get knocked out. He’s completely sound, but perhaps was just a bit too distracted by it all, and both of them are very healthy so it just falls into a learning opportunity for both of them. Disappointing for sure, but they can, hopefully, try again next year when they have another year of experience under both of their belts. It also means T gets to rest on his unicorn 🦄 laurels but Ronan gets to try again in the next few weeks.

I don’t normally buy the photos but since this was such a huge accomplishment for me, I decided to celebrate this milestone with photos.

I frequently say T is worth his weight in GOLD 💛, but since he is about 1500 pounds and the price of gold is seriously high, my husband disagrees with me 😂🤣

Huge congratulations to Angie Fitz and Wind Frost (n/k/a Lyrah) for achieving Class 1 breeding approval with a bronze merit in jumping at the IDHSNA breed inspections this past Monday!🎉🥳🎊🙌

As a testament to her fabulous temperament, the inspectors selected Lyrah as their model for the post-inspection educational seminar they provided on linear profiles.

Some comments from the inspectors mentioned her great bascule, powerful hind end, nice shoulder and her careful and tidy jumping ability.

Bred by Jennifer Herzog, Lyrah is by Baltydaniel Breeze out of Glitter of Diamonds and carries O’Leary’s Irish Diamond and Skippy, amongst many other fine Irish horses in her pedigree.

Many thanks goes out to Jennifer Merrick-Brooks from EquiJenn International for fine tuning Lyrah’s beautiful jump.
