Did you know a goat’s horns are actually a built-in AC unit? 🐐🌡️ Most people have no idea how much function is packed inside them!

My husband and I learned this firsthand when we raised our bottle-baby pack goats. When you have goats working hard out on mountain trails in extreme weather, those horns are a vital survival tool for self-regulating body temperature.

Even though we don't have our pack goats anymore, that lesson taught how we manage our herd today.

GROWTH ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE COMFORTABLE

We often pray for growth.

We ask God to make us stronger.
To deepen our faith.
To make us more patient, more faithful, more like Christ.

But we don’t always realize what we’re asking for.
Because growth is uncomfortable.

A young goat doesn’t become strong by standing in the corner of the pen.

Strength comes from movement.
From resistance.
From being stretched.

And our faith is much the same.
God doesn’t always grow us through the easy seasons.

Sometimes He grows us through the waiting.
Through the disappointment. Through the days when we’re tired but still have to show up. Through prayers that seem unanswered. Through circumstances that force us to trust Him when we can’t see what He’s doing.

Romans 5:3–4 says:
“…we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Notice the progression.
Suffering produces perseverance.
Perseverance produces character.
And character produces hope.

God is not wasting the hard season.

The struggle you’re walking through may be producing something in you that comfort never could. Every time you choose obedience when it’s hard, you’re building endurance. Every time you keep trusting when you don’t understand, your faith is being strengthened.
Every time you get back up after being knocked down, you’re becoming more steadfast.

And eventually, you look back and realize

God wasn’t just trying to get you through it.
He was using it to grow you.
Mature faith isn’t built by never struggling.

It’s built by learning, through every struggle, that Christ is faithful.

The goal isn’t a faith that only works when everything is going right.

It’s a faith that says:
“Even here, I trust You.”
“Even when I don’t understand, I’ll follow You.”
“Even when this is uncomfortable, I know You’re doing something in me.”

The barn reminds us of this.
Nothing grows because we wish it would.
Growth takes time.
It takes consistency.It takes pressure.
It takes showing up again and again.

And sometimes the very thing that feels uncomfortable today is what God is using to prepare you for tomorrow.

So don’t despise the stretching.
Don’t run from every uncomfortable season.
Don’t assume that difficulty means God has left you.
Sometimes the discomfort is part of the growing.

And if you keep walking with Christ through it, you won’t come out the same.

You’ll come out stronger.
More steadfast.
More dependent on Him.

And with a faith that has been tested, strengthened, and matured.

Reflection for the Day✝️

What uncomfortable season are you walking through right now?

Instead of only asking God to remove it, ask Him:

“Lord, what are You trying to grow in me through this?”

Where is He teaching you perseverance?
Where is He asking you to trust Him before you can see the outcome?Growth may be uncomfortable.
But God never wastes the process.

The same God who meets you in the struggle is the God who will carry you through it.

Keep showing up.
Keep trusting.
Keep walking.

Because the faith being forged in the hard seasons may become the faith that carries you through everything still ahead.

ALLEYWAY✝️DEVOTIONS

It’s easy to feel close to God on a Sunday morning.

The music is playing. The sanctuary is quiet. The pew is comfortable.

But some of the deepest lessons God teaches us aren’t learned in a pew.

They’re learned in the barn.

They’re found at 6:00 AM with a bucket of fresh water in your hand, dirt on your boots, aching legs from a long week, and the sunrise breaking over the barn roof.

Faith isn’t just a feeling we experience on Sunday. It’s a daily practice of stewardship.

When you’re bending down to check feet, mixing feeds, cleaning pens, carrying hay, or patiently teaching a young kid how to set up and hold their head high, you’re participating in something much bigger than a weekend ribbon.

You’re learning patience.

You’re practicing consistency when nobody is watching.

You’re learning to care for something entrusted to you, even when the work is repetitive, exhausting, and completely unglamorous.

Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

That verse hits a little differently when your hands are covered in dirt.

Because the barn teaches us that growth rarely happens overnight.

It happens through the quiet, ordinary repetition.

One morning.
One chore.
One feeding.
One correction.
One more day of showing up.

The work you put into the dirt today may not look like much.

But God sees it.

And sometimes, what feels like the smallest act of faithfulness is actually preparing you for the greatest harvest.

Reflection for the Day✝️

Where in your ordinary, routine chores can you pause long enough to thank God?

How would your perspective change if you began seeing your daily work not as something you simply have to do, but as an opportunity to serve Him?

Faith doesn’t start when the lights come on in the arena. It’s forged in the quiet corners of the barn long before the show ever begins.

Ending our show season with full hearts and proud moments! ❤️🐐

Avery pulled off another Reserve Showman title, while Joanie shined in the top three of her age group! 🎉

We are so grateful for the livestock that challenged and taught us this year, but even more grateful for the tribe we found along the way. Having a community that loves this lifestyle just as much as we do is the real win.

To everyone out there showing up, putting in the work, and holding down this industry congratulations! You’re all winners in my book. Thank you for an unforgettable season! 🙏✨

Prepping for the next time 😉

’Twas the night before fair,
And the barn was a war zone disguised as “prepared.”
The goats had been scrubbed, the kids were fed,
And approximately twelve things were still running through my head.

The show clothes were ironed and hung on the door,
While wood chips and hay somehow covered the floor.
The trailer was packed with each show-day necessity,
Though somehow we still lacked all basic capacity. 😭

Grain bags were stacked, and the snack totes were filled,
Because hungry show kids are absolutely unhinged.

“Did you pack the leg shampoo?” “Yep, it’s in the truck.”
“Clippers?” “Yep.” “Show boxes?” “Yep.” “Okay, we’re in luck!”
Then someone yelled, “MOM! I CAN’T FIND MY SHOES!”
And just like that, we discovered more news.

The blankets were packed, the tablets were too,
The chairs and the cooler were loaded up through.
The list had been checked, then checked once again,
But somehow I still felt like we’d forgotten ten. 😂

The kids were half-dressed and begging for bed,
While visions of fair food danced in their heads.
Then came, “MOM! I NEED A DRINK!” from down the hall,
Because apparently bedtime means needing it all. 😂

I packed one more Pepsi and stared at the clock,
Wondering why fair starts at an ungodly o’clock.
The alarm was set for an hour before dawn,
Which feels deeply offensive when sleep is already gone.

We finally collapsed, exhausted but proud,
Somehow surviving the pre-fair chaos allowed.
But somehow we’ll make it. We always pull through,
With tired little faces and show goats in tow.

So here’s to the chaos, the memories, and cheer
The ribbons, the sweat, and our favorite time of year.

Happy Fair Week to all, and to all a good night!
…unless you’re a fair mom.

Then good luck. You’re gonna need it. 😂🐐🎡
