University of Wyoming's mascot Cowboy Joe V is a thirteen year old Shetland Pony donated by the Farthing Ranch in Cheyenne.

We now have Cowboy Joe VI, a yearling pony!

Next up for handler introductions we have the 2026-2027 Head Handler, Tess! 💛🤎🤠

Hi everyone! I’m Tess, a senior here at UWYO studying Physiology!

Going into my third year as a Cowboy Joe handler, I’m most excited to aid in the transition between Joe V and Joe VI! My favorite part about this program, though, is getting to meet new people, so I can’t wait for what this year has to offer!

A fun fact about me is that in my free time I love to rock climb and bake sourdough!

Next up for introductions is our newest handler, Sage!

My name is Sage Scoggin, and I am from Cheyenne, Wyoming. I am a sophomore studying Animal Science with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary medicine, and plan to attend vet school after graduation.
I am a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, where I currently serve as the Public Relations Director. Outside of school, I volunteer for Cheyenne Frontier Days, having previously served as a Dandy and continuing this year as a member of the Color Guard.
A fun fact about me is that I currently serve as the Hell on Wheels Rodeo Queen, representing a local rodeo in my hometown. Growing up immersed in Wyoming’s western heritage has given me a deep appreciation for the traditions and values that Cowboy Joe represents.
Being a fourth generation UW legacy, I am honored to be a part of Cowboy Joe and am excited to contribute to the program while helping preserve the western spirit and traditions of the University of Wyoming! 🤎💛🤎💛🤎

It’s time to start introducing the 2026-2027 Cowboy Joe Handler team! First up is Chase, who is starting her second year as a CBJ Handler! 💛🤎

My name is Chase Anderson and I am a senior at UW, majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in History, with my sights set on attending law school after graduation. When I’m not wrangling Cowboy Joe or studying, I serve as the President of the Chi Omega Sorority and love to spend time with my sisters! A fun fact about me is I was crowned National American Miss Wyoming in 2024!
I am so excited to interact with UW fans this coming football season! Go Pokes!

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to our 2025-2026 Head Handler, Kali! Joe and his handlers will miss her! 🐴🐴 A few words from Kali: 💛🤎 Serving as a Head Handler for Cowboy Joe was one of the greatest honors of my time at the University of Wyoming. Being part of such an iconic tradition taught me leadership, teamwork, and what it means to represent something bigger than yourself with pride and dedication. The memories made with the other handlers, the fans, and Cowboy Joe himself are ones I will cherish forever, and I will always be grateful to have been part of such a special piece of Wyoming spirit 💛🐴
