Lots of people have been asking how we are doing in this chilly Wisconsin weather! Tonight we finally started to thaw out a little bit! The calves started coming out to get some sun and the cows are moving a little faster! We are sore and tired from breaking ice and keeping everything running but with lots of preparation for this cold weather, we are getting through it! Couldn’t have done it without our team we have working here! Special thanks to all our employees who braved the cold. Even the highschool help came out Friday when school was canceled!

Today we had to say goodbye to an Olson Farms favorite. Anyone who has worked for us in the last 9 years knows who Daisy is. Many of us rode her up the lane and struggled to get her to move anywhere. She was one of a kind and made us a lot of memories. She had 8 babies during her time here, many of which are milking, and have offspring their own. We love and miss you lots, Miss Daze ❤

❤ Look at these two cuties!! Would you have guessed that both of them were born from black cows??

🖤 Much like in humans, genetics in cattle can be quite complicated. Even if one or both parents of a calf are black, it's still possible for their baby to be red, although one parent is often red. For example, Toula has a black and white mother (named Heidi) but a red father! Lavender also has a black mother (named Lady) and a red father.

❤ There are mulitple genes that determine coat color in cattle, and it's always cool when we get a red calf, but when it comes down to it, we just care that our babies are happy and healthy!

🦷 Did you know that like humans, cows lose their baby teeth as they age?

🦷 Another fun cow tooth fact - cows don't have top teeth in the front of their mouths. Instead, they have a hard "dental pad" where their top front teeth would be that allows them to bite things.

🧚‍♀️ What do you think the tooth fairy would bring us if we left this under our pillow?

Of course this little gal chose one of the coldest nights of the year to join us out here in the world! Luckily for her, we were prepared. Our nifty little calf heater is well-equipped to warm up chilly babies...underneath the orange floor is a heater which heats up the whole blue box! It's nice and toasty inside, so she will warm up in no time. See the comments for a photo! Also, we need a name for this sweetie. Her mom's name is Maggie....any suggestions??

This past Saturday, we were lucky enough to give a tour of the farm to the Tullar Elementary 3rd and 1st grade Girl Scout Troops ( #2291 and #2112)! 🐄 They had a blast learning all about how cows are cared for, how a cow is milked, and how farmers work to care for their animals and land while producing safe and healthy food! 🐄 At the end, each member earned her "Farm Love" badge and got to enjoy some milk and cookies 🥛🍪 Thanks so much for stopping out to visit!

We want to thank everyone who made it out yesterday! It was a perfect day and we are so thankful for all our family and friends! Thank you Winnebago County Dairy Promotion and all the volunteers that made it happen. Thank you to all those who donated and to everyone who came out to teach people about our industry🐄🥛. Thanks to both the Wi******er Fire department and Boombay Fire department for being there and helping out! I hope you all had fun and enjoyed it as much as we did!
