Farming means learning to live with the rhythm of nature. Last night’s downpour set the perfect conditions to clean and disinfect feed buckets this morning. The rain caught in each bucket had been loosening dried on feed particles for hours so my job i a cinch.

I love using my Norwex towels for this! The silver imbedded in the towel captures, holds, and kills microbes which make this the perfect, non-chemical method for cleaning and disinfecting barn buckets without ruining my hands!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I have fallen in love with this goat! She is an absolutely amazing mom, doing whatever she needed to make sure her kids got fed when she couldn’t stand up, and now standing perfectly still to be milked while on the ground! Amanda Luther, you’re not getting this goat back!!!

I only got about a quart of milk off of Bluebell this morning, but I’m hopeful once she’s back into a regular milking routine, we can get that amount up.

What a delightful discovery the Littles and I had on our walk today! This gorgeous surprise bravely waved to us from our easment, enticing my flower pickers to pluck her up. (I saved her, though!)

I thought it was a wild orchid, but alas, this beauty is part of the Iris family. No matter. There will be no more mowing until this lovely lady goes to seed. My sweet husband will just have to deal. 😂

Just two days ago, this squash was half the length and maybe a third the diameter. And. Then. I. Blinked.🫤

No blinking allowed in gardening, apparently.

Lesson learned.

This has been one of my favorite inspirations this school year! What an easy way for the whole family to learn about Texas native birds, and their habits!!!

TIP TUESDAY👏🏻 Naturally Laundry, phase 2:

Phase 1: Clean your machine

Phase 2: Wash your clothes…

Step one: Sort. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP! I don’t care how many times you’ve washed a pair of jeans, if you throw a white shirt in there, it’s gonna get dingy from the die bleed. So sort your clothes into lights and darks.

Step two: Divide overly large loads. It is taking me 30 years to learn the value of this step. While my machine is an extra large capacity, washer, every single time I’ve ever overstuffed it, I’ve regretted it because something just hasn’t gotten clean. So divide your loads.

Step three: Pre-wash. This is the most labor-intensive part of this whole process, but so worth it! Grab a bar of hand natural soap and hand wash out any food, oil, and sweat stains you find. There’s no need to make sure all the soap is rinsed out, since you are just going to throw these prewashed items into the machine, but you do want to make sure all the stains are out.

Step four: Use an all natural, UNSCENTED laundry soap. That’s right, unscented. The whole point of washing clothes is to take dirt and odors out of your laundry. If you want that long, lasting freshly washed smell, stay tuned for next week when we talk about drying our clothes naturally.

For those of you who do opt want to be bothered with researching recipes, and mixing your own laundry soap, I’ve made my Farmhand Laundry Soap available for you which you can find via my website.

It seems like an age since we have had a glass of fresh, raw goat milk! All my plans for the Herdshare and kidding season flew out the window last Fall thanks to an overly aggressive herding dog. We are just now getting a small trickle of milk for our table and boy are we GREATFUL!!

Here’s hoping we can get enough to share before too long. 🤞🏻
