TIP TUESDAY👏🏻 Naturally Laundry, phase 2:
Phase 1: Clean your machine
Phase 2: Wash your clothes…
Step one: Sort. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP! I don’t care how many times you’ve washed a pair of jeans, if you throw a white shirt in there, it’s gonna get dingy from the die bleed. So sort your clothes into lights and darks.
Step two: Divide overly large loads. It is taking me 30 years to learn the value of this step. While my machine is an extra large capacity, washer, every single time I’ve ever overstuffed it, I’ve regretted it because something just hasn’t gotten clean. So divide your loads.
Step three: Pre-wash. This is the most labor-intensive part of this whole process, but so worth it! Grab a bar of hand natural soap and hand wash out any food, oil, and sweat stains you find. There’s no need to make sure all the soap is rinsed out, since you are just going to throw these prewashed items into the machine, but you do want to make sure all the stains are out.
Step four: Use an all natural, UNSCENTED laundry soap. That’s right, unscented. The whole point of washing clothes is to take dirt and odors out of your laundry. If you want that long, lasting freshly washed smell, stay tuned for next week when we talk about drying our clothes naturally.
For those of you who do opt want to be bothered with researching recipes, and mixing your own laundry soap, I’ve made my Farmhand Laundry Soap available for you which you can find via my website.
