Some contaminants can matter at concentrations so small that percentages just aren't a useful way to talk about them. That's where parts per billion (PPB) comes in.

One PPB is like one second out of 32 years... and for some contaminants, we measure concentrations even smaller than that. Forever Chemicals (PFAS), for example, can be measured in parts per trillion (PPT).

When the numbers get tiny, scale matters. Even though they are a tiny concentration, it doesn't mean they are always a tiny concern.
