This is the part of homesteading they don't talk about.

I just finished removing dozens of fly maggots from my rabbit's vent after soaking her bum in a solution of apple cider vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and premetherin. The maggots were evacuating and dying on their own, so I didnt have to get too many with the tweezers.

Now, she's cozy, wrapped in a towel and munching on garlic tops and drinking an anti-worm tea made with garlic and clove.

Say a little prayer for Acorn! They say you cant cure an active case of fly strike, but I beg to differ!

Unrolled round bales over the field where pigs had rooted last fall. Almost time to plant sweet potatoes 🥔

Painted the outdoor guest bathroom door with glass paint

Moved black snakes into the greenhouse

Supervised ducklings and goslings being born everywhere! (We now have a hybrid between Canada goose and Tolouse goose!! And there are 15 ducklings, too!)

Had a great time with my parents as they tent camped on our Shooting Star Deck site.

This is only the beginning of the season :)

Potatoes, green beans, celery, and peas....lentils, amaranth, asparagus, and quinoa....tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, and cabbage....watermelons, pumpkins, corn, and flowers....phew!!!

The last frost date has passed and this is the list of what's "growing on around here" this month!

Pray for us, we have found a nearby dairy sheep pair (very hard to come by!!) But, we cant swing the $$ to bring them home and start our family sheep dairy.

The goal is to produce our own milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, and keifer again (but this time, with sheep instead of goats) and be able to make products like soap & lotion to sell to our local patrons.

Dairy sheep are significantly more expensive and difficult to find than dairy goats. To get good bloodlines is incredibly hard, I've been searching for over two years and not come across this caliber of stock yet. It would be a great opportunity! If its Gods will, keeping my hopes high and head low...

I am searching for someone to do an excavation project for us!

We must dig a cold cellar this year, before winter, and grade the entry up to it.

We don't have much, but I can either make payments, or trade piano, voice, or art lessons for the individual's kids. I can also trade farm sitting services, I have years of experience.

Unorthodox, but a viable bartering coin nonetheless :)

It happened! After 3 years of soil preparation via rotational grazing, hay application, and removing rocks, we have several new patches of tilled earth to plant.

Thank you DanielandElizabeth Hoover for tilling up the ground for us! The barter system is alive and well; I am trading them art lessons for the tilling work.

There was such a huge difference between the pig & hay conditioned soil and the un-conditioned soil. Side by side in the same run, they are like two different planets. No expensive compost, soil conditioners, or fertilizers....just pigs and rolls of old hay!
