Today at Rural King, we saw a man pushing one cart and pulling another with three grown dogs in each cart! He was shopping, and the dogs were sitting patiently and quietly waiting for him. I couldn't stop looking even though I felt bad for staring! I sneaked a photo but cut out the man for privacy.

Back deck views this morning.

We brought Daphne in and milked her last night after separating her and Olaf for about 8 hours yesterday. We're milking whenever we need the milk and Olaf gets the rest.

Note: This arrangement only works if the calf is old enough to drain the udder every day. Otherwise, you're setting yourself up for a case of bovine mastitis.

The Short Tales of Finn, Leo & Fancy

"Dad keeps saying 'We've gone to the dogs, ' whatever that means. Mom says we need to mention that we still have cows and they are doing fine.

Anyway, back to us!

We are all adjusting to our new life together. Finn is the most laid back about the whole thing, but that's just his personality. He's really sweet, but he's more interested in things around him and less interested in competing for attention.

Leo and Fancy, on the other hand, are just alike. They both like to be the center of attention. When Mom comes to take us for a walk, Leo likes to practice 'herding" Fancy. He barks and runs around her until she goes back into her house and sits out looking to Mom to put a stop to Leo's behavior. Mom has to leash Leo up first, just so he will stop being so bossy.

Leo and Finn are much better about staying with Mom, so once everyone is in the pasture, they can be turned loose to run and play. When Mom says, 'Come,' the boys will run to her for a treat. Fancy learned right away what treats are, and she gets one too. When she first got here, she wouldn't eat them because she hadn't been used to getting them.

Mom keeps Fancy close to her for right now. Fancy got really scared one day and ran down the road into the neighbor's field, keeping the pace as fast as she could go. Dad ran after her for a long way. Mom didn't know that Dad could still run so fast. She said he did really well for an old guy who's 65. Dad is Mom's hero because he always gets her (and us) out of scrapes.

Mom says three dogs are a lot to handle, but she loves us."

I have some adjustments to make, but T Cupp knew the first time she met me that i have a lot of love to give. She saw it in my eyes.

My last owners were kind and took good care of me, but I had belonged to someone before them who wasn't so kind. So, I sometimes shrink back when a hand is raised too quickly or when someone picks up a stick. It's a natural reaction to trauma.

I have lived my seven years of life without the chance to do much more than give birth and nurse babies.

I have a strong and gentle spirit.
I will be happy now.

Living with my boys will be good for all. I let Finn and Leo know with a short, low growl when they've crossed a line. They listen like good boys. Even though I've never before been allowed to roam freely, I already respond to "come" after roaming in the pasture. Finn and Leo are following my lead. They need a steady, quiet leader like me. Leo doesn't want to share things very much though. He's got a ways to go with that. - Fancy

We adopted Finn and Leo's mom today. She's seven. We will have her spayed. All she has to do is relax now.
