Congratulations to Colton at the carbon county fair! He got first in the heavyweight class and second in showmanship! So proud of the kid. It is his first year in goats and picked out his own goat at our sale. He’s learned a lot this year. Thank you Colton for doing such a great job raising your market goat! He even turned his goat into a goat-a-corn. 😂

The bucks were put in with the does yesterday. Let breeding season begin. Lots of wagging tails.

Fair time is right around the corner. Remember do your best that’s all you can do. Please send pics of goats you bought from us and how they did at fair.

Dear Fair Exhibitors,

This post goes out to all the National 4-H and National FFA Organization members getting ready to show at their county fair, as well as their moms, dads and leaders.

Our county fair starts this week and once again, we have a few dairy heifers going that are being shown by kids that haven't grown up on a dairy farm.

More years ago than I'd like to admit, I was that kid. I didn't grow up on a farm and I was fortunate enough that I was able to show my Ag teacher's animals. I showed up to my first fair not really knowing what I was doing and nervous but also so excited to just be part of something I thought was so very cool.

In the coming months, thousands of you will enter the ring and only a handful will walk out with the top spot. Some of you will have walked into the ring with an animal that was purchased so you could show. Some of you will walk into the ring with an animal that your family has worked to breed for generations. Some of you will walk into the ring showing the animal you were loaned to show. Some of you will walk into the ring showing the animal you picked out solely on it's cute factor. Each of these situations is perfectly OK because each exhibitor has their own goals and reasons for showing at fair.

What I want each of you reading this to know is that while the ribbons and trophies tell the world how nice your animal looks and how well you did showing it, they don't tell the world how good of a person you are. That distinction has everything to do with how you act outside of the ring. Your animal not placing doesn't mean you aren't good enough. Your animal winning, doesn't mean you are better than the kids who placed lower.

The bottom line is that fair is so much more than ribbons and placings, it's about friendships both old and new. It's about stretching and growing. It's about learning humility and recognizing that each person walking into the ring with you is your peer and is deserving of respect and kindness. I hope you will each take your chance this year to branch out a little and be inclusive to everyone in your barn. You never know which kid will take the little spark started at your local fair and turn it into something great.

Signed,
The dorky girl who showed a miniature donkey at the county fair.
